Not much we can do about it, but don't be surprised when you are replacing your tires at about 20,000 miles. Seriously, these Continentals ARE that bad. I still love the car but I'm disappointed that it came with these tires.

I agree. I have a little bit over 25k miles and the tires are in a bad shape. Definitely will replace it before winter maybe even sooner. BTW rear ones are not that bad but will have to replace them next year. I never rotated the tires because I think this is waste of money and time. I'd rather replace it a little bit sooner with new ones.

My wife's car (2004 VW Passat) had the Continentals. She is a very conservative driver to the point that people kind of get upset with her (when they are stuck behind her LOL). These tires barely lasted 20,000 miles. I was actually shocked in this day and age that tires could be that bad. I replaced them with Goodyear Regatta II's and I anticipate those to go over 100,000 miles.

My last vehicle was a 2005 Ford Explorer and when I traded that for the Rogue it had 65,000 miles on the Bridgestone tires and they still looked pretty good.

Any suggestions on a good replacement tire? One that's reasonably priced yet will last longer than the current OEM tires. Thanks.

Well... for those of you who "haven't" purchased your Rogue yet... there is something you can do.

The day after I signed the contract I went to the dealership to pick up my Rogue. While waiting for the detailer to finish cleaning it up I was talking to the sales rep and happened to mentioned my displeasure with Nissan on their selection of Continental tires. What I heard next made me want to kick myself.

She said, Nissan dealers in the US have been getting a lot of negative comments from prospective Altima buyers about two areas:1) The Continental Tires2) The Radio

As a result, if a customer raises any negative concern about the tires or the radio while in the early tire kicking stage... the Nissan sales reps have been approved to tell them they can pull the radio and discount the price and/or can swap out the Continentals for Michelins!

She said they do a lot of Altima tire swaps so they have plenty of Michelins in inventory. She said although they haven't adopted the same open policy for Rogues ... all I would have had to say is it wouldn't be a deal unless they swapped the tires... and it would have happened! Unfortunately (as mentioned earlier) I discovered this "after" I signed the contract. I gave her the wounded puppy dog look (after all I hadn't even taken delivery of the car yet) but it didn't do any good.

NOTE: The dealers "Do not" advertise these options nor do the offer it up voluntarily. Even on the Altima. You have to first voice your displeasure. Although not standard practice on the Rogue, even the finance manager said if a customer wants Michelins on the Rogue to make the deal happen they'd do it because it s no skin off their nose.

Continental tire issues goes back way farther than the current Altima and Rogue. I had an '03 Altima that was equipped with the Conti's and they were just as bad back then.

So far I have about 30,000km (18,000mi) on the OEM Conti's. Look here for pics from last year (near the bottom of the first page):

zerothread/295680

At this point I only expect to get the summer out of them. I have winter tires anyway, so I can afford to wait until next year for replacements.

Honestly, I cannot answer why Nissan puts seemingly sub-par tires on their cars. It may be a cost issue.... I swear Continental must be giving their tires away!

This is what I'm considering when I replace my tires late next year. I usually drive 25,000kms per year. I figure that the cheap OEM tires the Rogue currently have are only good for 1 winter season. There might be other tires which are comparable to Yokohoma AVID TRZ in terms of price and tread wear. I'll keep looking and checking out this forum for other suggestions.

That's why I refer to dealerships as stealerships ... dealers as stealers.

Philip, your assumption is probably correct.

Having spent many years in the tire industry we had a word for OEM tires: "RAGS".

Did they change the stock tires at some point? We have Dunlops (forget which ones but I think they're one of the Grantreks) and they seem to be good tires. Sounds like they're certainly better than the Contis.

Nissan has used both Dunlops and Conti's on the Rogue. It's just luck of the draw which one you got. They switch constantly based on supply/availability.

Personally, I knew from my experience with the Altima that the Conti's were going to be fast wearing. It just gives me an excuse to put better tires on my Rogue next year.

I was thinking that most of us lease these cars (I did) so think about it. I'll maybe get 25,000 miles out of these Conti's or maybe even 30K if I try real hard, so I'll turn the Rogue in after 39 months (It will have around 40K on it) and they'll have a car to put on their lot with really good tires.

Conspiracy?

I have over 27500 miles on my Contis and have plenty of tread left.

Ugh, drove in the rain yesterday. No traction from a dead stop or accelerating from low speeds, the TCS was constantly engaging. It had been raining for several hours so I don't feel it was caused by oil on the road.

It reminds me of the Alty before I upgraded from the Conti's, I could spin the front tires by just applying throttle (at least in the first 2 gears... 5spd manual).

Once again, the Conti's are underwhelming and in some cases are downright dangerous.

I will have to take it easy for the rest of the summer, esp in rain. I am really concerned about hydroplaning and braking performance.

Is there warranty on Continental? If so, how many miles?

OMG, I can't stand the Conti tires anymore! At this point I would sooner put my winter tires back on. With only 50% tread depth remaining they are becoming downright dangerous to drive on when wet. There is a total lack of traction... reminds me of driving on near slick tires in the wet when I used to race.

Oh well, there is no budget for tires this year. I will just have to ride it out till October when the winters can go back on.

As for warranty... the Nissan warranty booklet says to refer to the tire mfg for warranty coverage. Well get this:

Continental does not offer a treadwear warranty on their tires!

Read the warranty information here:

http://continentaltire.custhel...olh=0

Specifically section 4:

Quote »4.WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THEADJUSTMENT POLICY....

Company does not offer tread wearout coverage up to apredetermined mileage under this Policy.[/quote]Once again, I will never buy a Continental tire for my vehicle. This is my second set of Conti's (first set were OEM tires on the Alty). I had little choice at the time of purchase... or so it seems. Both sets were utter garbage in terms of wear, performance, and safety (poor wet weather traction).

Co-incidentally, our stock Dunlops have 26K miles on them, they are wearing quite evenly and look to get at least 60K miles.

BTW, We had no problems with them in the snow

Looking for tires for my 08 SL awd (225 -60 R17 H). I like buying my tires at Costco. They do not have tires in this size in the H rating. They do however have the Michelin Latitude tour HP in 225-60R17 in V rating. Which is a higher rating. The review in Tire Rack is very good on this tire. Does anyone feel there can be any problem with this. The sales people in Costco are pretty good and they said the only issue may be that the car may ride a little harder in a V rating.

Hmmm, I 'm just shy of 37,000 miles on my Continentals and they still have maybe another 5K left in them. I mostly drive freeway though and had them filled at the dealer with nitrogen.

I wouldn't concern yourself with speed ratings that are higher than stock. Higher speed ratings do not necessarily equate stiffer riding, especially when comparing different brands.

Besides, anything you buy is likely going to be an improvement over the stock Conti's.
