I know some of you guys have used contact cleaners. Are there different types? My understanding is that the CRC contact cleaner is more of a degreaser than anything else, kind of like their Brakleen. I just pulled the connector off a couple injectors, and the contacts all have that greenish, corroded copper coating on them. You guys know of anything that will take that off yet still be pretty safe to use on the plastic connectors?

I use a product called JIF-Action Contact Cleaner by GC Electronics... why, because that's what I found in my dad's garage :) I'd assume it's probably available at local electronic supply houses since that's probably where he bought it.

Here's a web site that sells it...

The good thing about this stuff is that it has a silicone lubricant built in, so if you're cleaning a rotary control knob or something like that, it helps lubricate everything and stop future corrosion too. My dad used to swear by a stuff called "WISH" contact cleaner when he worked on televisions in the late 60s. I think those old knob type tuners were a big problem to keep clean...

For your injectors, I'd say anything that gets them clean (rubbing alcohol, brake parts cleaner, etc. especially if you use an old tooth brush would be fine. Then put a little dielectric grease on them to keep everything water and corrosion resistant.

Thanks guys. I did go to Radio Shack yesterday but couldn't find anything quite like what I'm looking for. I remember when I was a little kid how awesome it was to walk around that store and marvel at all the hardcore electronic products. Now all that stuff is squirreled away on one isle to make room for all the higher-margin stuff, like consumer electronics and cell phones. That lubricated one sounds like the ticket to keep the corrosion away. I'll make a note to replace the injector harness the next time I have the plenum off, but for now, I'll be scrubbing what I can reach with a toothbrush.

Try some water based Truck Wash. I have a VERY potent degreaser that removes all the corrosion & tarnish. It contains Caustics etc, & must be kept off paintwork. It just washes off with water, then you let them dry & I suggest some Terminal Grease to stop the moisture getting in. Like the stuff the Marine guys use.

My old dental pick cleaned off a bunch of bad stuff from injectors terminals, CAS terminmals, MAS terminals, etc... Just like when you have your teeth cleaned, and they are doing all of that scraping and you're wondering what they are getting into???? BTW excellent pics, what a clean engine!!
