Just published:
Infiniti did extremely well, Nissan did pretty well overall.

Every Infiniti scored above average for reliability, with the QX56 topping its category.Worst infiniti was the M56 which still ranked a tad better than average. Well done Infiniti

Nissan Models that did well:
Altima - the 4 cyl did better than the V6, used to be the other way around
Murano
Sentra
Titan
Xterra
Rogue
Maxima
Cube

Average:
Versa
Frontier

needs improvement:
Juke: slightly below average
Armada: low, but in all fairness, it did better than before.
370Z surprisingly was the most unreliable sports car, but not the most unreliable vehicle. Jaguar got that honor.

Top 5 brands for reliability:

Scion
Lexus
Acura
Mazda
Honda
(Infiniti was ranked 7th best, Nissan 9th best)

Worst 5 brands for reliability:
Jaguar
Porsche
Audi
Cadillac
Buick

Top scoring American brand was Jeep #13 (which improved its position).
Chrysler improved overall
GM stumbled a bit : Buick/Caddy seemed to take a step backward, Chevy held steady, but GMC dipped a little.
Ford dropped but CU felt Ford's drop was attributed to new technologies, specifically the new MyFord touch infotainment system and the new automated-manual transmission in the Focus and Fiesta, plus lotsa problems with the MyLincoln Touch system. On the bright side the Fusion line was well above average.

thoughts?

It's seems pretty spot on, aside from the fact that I would not buy anything Lexus/Toyota/Scion, so I don't care about their reliability and almost every Acura is butt ugly now, so I wouldn't buy one of them either. I'd buy a Mazda all day long though. I think if I were buying a car, I would avoid Nissan and head over to the Infiniti dealer, mainly because their vehicles are more exciting and don't have the CVT(yet). I'm happy to see their cars up there in reliability, but none of them really interest me very much. Now if I were buying a truck or SUV, a Frontier or Xterra would be at the top of my list.

I'm curious... How did Hyundia and Kia do?

Hyundai held it's 11th ranking from last year, and Kia improved to 12th. Both brands had just one model with a below average reliability ranking. The V6 Santa Fe and V6 Sorento.

I like Kia better than Hyundai, but that's only because their vehicles are more attractive across the board. The Optima and the Sportage are both great looking vehicles. I've thought about leasing a Sportage for the wife when it comes time to replace the Jeep.

I have a neighbor who recently bought a Kia. He tends to park it on the street right where I want to park my flatbed (when I have it out) :squint: , but I gotta admit it's a nice looking car. I also think once Acura un-uglifies the front ends of their cars, they would be another good brand to consider as well.

Bingo. I loved Acuras between 04 - whenever it was they added that butt ugly grill to everything. Even before 04, I liked a lot of their products aside from the TL. The TSX is still one of my favorite sedans out there at the moment, for the kind of money I would consider spending on a vehicle.

The Titan did well, but the Armada didn't?

...strange. They roll off the same assembly line. The only difference is the body and independent rear suspension on the Armada.

That data sounds iffy to me.

And hasn't the Titan previously been on the low-end of their reliability ratings? Not much has changed since the first one was built, so I find this amusing.

The Titan was on the low end of reliability for a several years but they've been improving. I believe last year Titan improved to average. This year even better. The Armada actually showed improvement too, just not improving as quickly as the Titan.

We call that the "James" factor (I started working as the frame/chassis/suspension/engine dress process engineer a little over a year ago). :chuckle:

In all seriousness though, I do try to run a tight ship. Based on our in-house judging criteria (which I'll be the first to say is kinda BS metrics), the Armada is actually slightly better than the Titan. The criteria is more biased towards passenger vehicles rather than trucks though. A truck owner doesn't want to have to replace 3 parts (fascia, 2 fenders) if they get in a minor front end fender bender, hence the massive gaps between the front bumper and everything else (more robust design really). Armada is tight as a drum.

Say what you will about the age of the body and everything, but I still much prefer the looks of the Armada to the new QX56.

Oh, and +1 to what Jesdar said.

You have now won the thread and have provided much more masturbatlon material than the reliability of Nissans and Infiniti.

PS what catalog is this from?
