Consult logger of any use for KA-T....

I was wondering if a consult interface would be of any use in a KA-t. could it be used in place of a safc or guages. Or maybe i have no idea what i am talking about and a consult logger is used for anouther reason. What is the best software that i can get. consultz (sp?) looks nice but is way to expensive for what it is. are there any free programs out there?

i have the interface and i will be using a laptop. i just need some software to comunicate with the ecu.
