Consult-II diagnostic tool vs software on a laptop

I need to get my ecu programmed (infinity qx4) to recognize a new key. dealer fee is astronimical! there is a tool called consult-II that does this. it plugs into a digital data port in the car. the tool seems to cost $3k to $6k online. is there anyway to just put some software on a regular old laptop, connect to that data port and do the same thing for a lot less $ ?
