"Setting base ignition advance requires the Consult [special screen to set]to lock out IAC and ECU from changing the number to try to maintain idle."
my mechanic has a borrowed consult and knows how to perform basic functions (pull codes Power balance) How do i do the lock out of ECU and IAC to properly advance .

Can't you disconnect the TPS, rev up to 3500RPM 3 times within like 5-7 seconds and let the engine stabilize - and THEN adjust your idle air controll valve screw to the idle RPM and adjust timing via CAS ? I know its like that on SR20s but would it work on a VH ? I'm currious to find out... gonna have to try this week when she runs.

Even with IAC disconnected thev ECU tries to maintain idle speed by varying the electronic ignition advance offset..............V8 different from basic I4.
The point is you can never be sure without Consult that what you see with strobe is real vs +- 1,2,3 degrees offset. The coolant temperature must be more than 173F and less than 195F to minimize the extra problem of SUMMER Protection [sofware adjusts offset downward with excessive coolant temp and upward as not warmed up]. PLUS the idle stabilization function.

Thats what I was thinking... As long as your TPS is fine you shouldnt have to unplug or do anything goofy like that...... still good idea to unplug the IAC.

Remember when the coolant is not warmed up, the hot idle wax cam opens the throttle and thus the TPS will not read a stablized warm idle 0.44 voltage...............this is one of the funky things that happens to people when they tweek those TB screws with locknuts and locktight.
You cannot just wait until the coolant warms to 174F you must wait another 10 minutes after that until the TB stablizes.
