My mother has a 2004 Infiniti G35. Normal behavior of the car when parked with engine off is for the immobilizer light to be off. In the past week or so, the immobilizer light is constanlty on and is blinking constantly in a slow, steady blink.
The owner's manual says that the immobilizer light should not normally be on, but it doesn't distinguish between a steady-on light and a blinking light, and from what I have heard, that distinction is an important one.
Is the blinking immobilizer light a cause for concern? My mother would prefer to ignore it since the local repair shop says only a dealer can deal with it and that will cost a lot of money and time. The main concerns here would be not draining the battery (IOW, does a constantly-on immobilizer drain the battery?), and any safety issues or damage to the vital systems of the car. We are not concerned about theft.
Thanks for any help on this.
