Ok everyone, just bought an '08 Rogue SL AWD with 63,XXX miles. Drove 2 hours to buy it, drove it home with no noises. Next day, this tapping noise starts coming from the console area. I've found that it is coming from the shifter bezel area and am able to duplicate it with the car sitting still. Now, it appears to me that the flexible plastic "boot" that slides with the shifter is the culprit and if I can get the darn thing apart, I can verify this and come up with a permanent fix. Does anyone know how to get this apart?? I'm not sure if the bezel snaps off or if you have to take the top part of the console off?? I can't get either part off, they are stuck like glue and I don't want to break anything. If someone can verify exactly how to get this apart I'd appreciate it. Warranty is gone, so, I'm on my own on this, which is no biggie :) Dealerships seem to always halfway fix things anyway.

Are you sure it's not coming from seltbelt latch? I have the same noise and i thought it was coming from there for sure.

Cory2018,

Nissan released a tech bulletin regarding shifter bezel squeak and how to repair it. Either take it back to the dealer and have it fixed, or PM me with your e-mail and I can send you the tech bulletin.

I didn't thing that a TSB would be done for free unless it was still under warranty?? Really don't want to pay them to fix this. Correct me if I'm wrong please :) I'll send you a PM b/c I'd really like to see that TSB. Thanks!

Ok, did the TSB per the instructions, very easy to do if you take the trim piece apart (3 pieces)!! Drove down the road, rattle was worse at first, then hushed up. I'm going to give it a day or so and see what happens. I have a theory that this TSB is not the best solution, or, possibly not a solution at all b/c of where they say to place the felt. Judging by what I see, the parts that are actually rubbing together are the square "tabs" that keep the part that you can move around freely attached to the trim. In other words, they are opposite from the parts that they actually tell you to put the felt on. You can tell that these "tabs" have been rubbing on the movable piece b/c of the white powder residue (rubbed off plastic). Anyway, if I have to take it back apart to do it my way b/c this doesn't fix it, I'll take pics :)
