So I have been reading up a little bit on water injection as a method to control engine ping, and I am considering making a homemade water injection system. But, I have a few questions for those of you who have done this, or know a bit about it.

Yes, I know there are kits that you can get. But these kits cost anywhere from $150 to the thousands, and I'm trying to keep this as a low-cost mod.

I've heard that you can use a spare windshield washer motor (or the one already on your car) wired into your TPS circuitry so that it will spray a different amount based on throttle position. But, I have no idea about what to use as a jet. Could I possibly use a fuel injector?

The whole reason for this mod would be to control engine pinging under 3/4 to WOT, which my KA has started doing for no apparent reason. The timing is dead on 15 degrees, I've run Seafoam through the vacuum, and I've switched to colder NGK plugs, all to no avail.

Somebody plz help me out here.

water injection is not what you need. Sounds like a tune-up is what you need. Try a few tanks of some name-brand gas with fuel injector cleaner. That's just one thing to try.

Okay, well say this isn't for that purpose. Say it's for improving gas mileage, reliability, and power, to a certain extent. Is this a decent idea?

if you want a cheap water injection system go to home depot. if you're pinging do what 4cefed says and run some fuel system cleaner. I've had the best and most noticible difference with Redline and Greased Lightning.

Water injection won't increase mileage. It'll increase the safety of your motor and possibly power but that'd be minimal.
