Hi guys, im not really a newbie(i post at zilvia) bt im not sure on some the aspects of the CA. I really like this motor because it revs high and its iron(im a roadracer/drifter) so you can see why i like this motor. My question is that sice all these motors are all so old, if I bought one from a importer, would i have to do a rebuild. Also where is the best place to get CA18s from a reliable dealer. The last thing im consered wth is the lack of aftermarket Support comepared with the SR here in the US. Are there any U.S. sites that actually sells stuff for the CA, bc i dont know how to fabricate so i would need things like intercooler kits, BOV kits and other such things. Well, thaanks for the help guys, btw, i tried searching but it I cant find exactly what i needed to know. So thanks again!:ylsuper

Welcome to NICO! We kinda pride ourselves on our CA section here, so please enjoy. As CA19 said, use the search button. I will be the first to tell you that there is A LOT of info there, but if you take the time to go through it all, you will learn SOOO much. Also, there is a sticky in this forum that gives you some basic stats of the CA and would be a great starting place. Once again, welcome, and if you're having trouble finding stuff, let us know and we'll do our best to help!

ok, the sr turbo will fit. they have the same t25 flange. a basic rebuild is a good idea with any used engine, so youd really want to consider it with either one of the engines. with my CA i just replaced the water pump, belts, hoses, etc. and some gaskets and it runs great. although some people have had bad luck with them, ive had a good experience with http://www.venus-auto.com most places will have stuff for the CA if you ask them, and there are several i visit regularly, although i cant remember the off hand.

Thats what I thought, tomei, I actually just wanted to look at a dyno of there ca but they dont have one. Besides its only a few pesos more for a rb26dett. I think I will buy my pistons, rods, springs, and solid spacers from them, gaskets and cams too much money

ok, can I chime in I've been reading the CA forum for a long time, but I'm still torn whether or not to go with the SR or the CA. I see both with there positives. it is my understanding that the sr can hold 400hp daily driven, that is without internal work. I dont know what the CA can hold. what I do know about the CA is the redline is 8700(verynice), iron block with forged internals. which is very nice but I know its still just 1.8 liter so I know its goign to be harder to push more horse out of it. basically what I want is an engine that I dont have to rebuild for the swap, with the best horsepower gains. maybe that sounds lame but I"m on a budget. well please what I"m really looking for is pros and cons list. I'm sure someone here could give me an unbiased answer as to which engine has the best pro to con ratio.

well I choose ca cause it only a 1.8 so it get good mileage, again revvs pretty high, and it really cheap. That bout sums it up. Sr is a 2.0, newer, bit more tq, alot more money. I hear 300 is good for a daily driver in ca18det but boost boy had 400 for few months I guess. That before he race a ferrari and hit a tree. Atleast he beat the ferrari

yeah but was that on stock internals:pface I mean I"m probably going to do cams, port polish myself. but everything else is whicked expensive and requires expertise, which I dont have and dont feel like busting a CA to learn. I basically just wondering what the CA can hanlde comfortablely on stock internals and maybe cams, and bolts ons.

It's all about tuning. If you try and run the Stock ECU, 300hp would be really pushing it for daily driver. You'd actually probabally need some sort of piggy back system to get there. BUT, if you get a standalone of somesort, you'd have the ability to tune the car so that it ran like it was supposed to and then most of your concerns would be gone. Horsepower doesn't generally shell a motor. Detonation shells motors. High heat shells motors. Poor tuning shells motors. Do it right and tune it. It will save you SOOO much time and headache down the road.

if money is no object i would go with the TOMEI engine, that this WILL flat out run like hell, TOEMI is renound in japan for building NA and recently turbo engines, they are one of the better (small) machine/performance shops that really knwo theur stuff and make allot of it inhouse..

and if i had my coice i would get both... the SR for daily driving and the CA for track time terror,,,
