I'm considering replacing the cast exhaust manifold with an OBX Header on a KA24DE N/A stock engine. I'm looking for some feedback from anyone that has one to let me know the following information:If I were to puchase the OBX Header how much louder would it make the engine compartment (decibels/percent)?Are all the sensor mounts in the same place as OEM, so that there would be no need to modify anything? Is 175.00 a fair price for one?

Thanks from Houston

Fair amount of debate right now about quality issues with OBX. Other options are Hotshot, DC Sports, Pace Setter (if they are still making them), and now Jim Wolf Tech (which is being put on my rebuilt ka within the next 40 days- this whole winter has been like lent for me without my 240!)

I have heard good and bad about OBX, i guess its just a matter of getting lucky. I have a hotshot on my car and from my experience, the sound isnt much louder than it was with my intake, now if you have no intake or exhaust then the header will be quite a bit louder. db or % im not sure, and i doubt anyone has really measured, lol. It sounds good, a lot more throaty, kinda more domestic sounding i guess, to me at least. Loss of low end feels like but some gain in high. Personally i would rather have gained torque and lost high hp, but thats just me.

I got one about 6 months ago and i have yet to have any problems with it. The header fit good and went in with no problems except the egr hose connection was a little off. As for the sound, there isn't too much of a difference.

It's funny becaue usually OBX is complete ****, but for the $$, it's the best header for our cars to date. I've had mine for about 4 months, and no problems. I know a couple other people who are appraching or just past 2 years with one, and no problems. It does make your exhaust considerably louder though. with a 3" exhaust, it's very loud, by anyone's standards.

Thanks for all the information. I was thinking of going to a 2.5" system while my engine is being rebuilt. I have already bought the muffler (2.5"). Now I need to decide what all else I can do without increasing the noise level too much, since I drive my 240 over 100 miles a day. I don't want it to drone at highway speeds or sound like a bunch of pissed off bumble bee's.

How did you fix your EGR hose? I just put mine on tonight and they line up at different angles.

I'd say go ahead and get it. I've got one on my ride. Again the only prob I had was the EGR. No complaints at all so far. I've also got a OBX 3 inch inlet canister muffler, it's a pretty nice piece.

Hey I just ordered my OBX HEADER, I have a full 3" exaust, Cold air intake, advanced timing, and iridium spark plugs, Will I gain any horsepower or torque with these mods from the stock car.

What will I need to smoke a HONDA SI stock on my 240sx.

full exhaust, cold air, and plugs is a great start. make sure to get new plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, too. with the amount of miles on your KA, they're a good thing to replace if you havent already. these mods will get you maybe 140-145hp at the wheels, i think. dont flame me if im wrong!

another good thing for a few extra horses (like 2-3) is using 5w-30 mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. great oil, and the lower viscosity will let your engine spin more freely at higher RPMs.

or just get some NOSSSSS! haha

what year Si is it? i know the new ones are slow as all get out

For what it's worth, I just got a Hotshot Header for my KA24DE. Welds look great, hell of a beefy piece of car part. Can't wait to hear how it sounds with the exhaust and intake. Vroooooooom!

well i got my header for free from a friend, at first i thought it was a hotshot... but i found out it was an obx (need to change my sig... new one soon) sounds good, egr lined up, no problems really, right now i have a gt spec exhaust and a stock cat thats empty( not my doing... it emptied itself, i swear!) and its loud as fuc|< .... im putting a catco cat on it tomarrow to get ready for smog and to hopefully quiet it a wee bit... but yeah obx header is fine, only thing it after awhile almost all headers start to look like crap...

I think its because the 95+ had a cat build into the pipe between the exhaust manifold and where the cat normally is, so instead they just have an empty cat 'shell'.

I have an OBX and I really don't like it. I had a warped flange that connects the downpipe to the catback and had to put a 3 bolt pattern one on to replace b/c it was blowing gaskets like crazy. In fact, I have a gasket leak now. Just my experience with their product.
