Ive researched this forum a ton about the rb20. I think its a great engine and deserves some respect. I have a 96 240. I have found the pdfs on wiring the rb into the s14 and read about using the skyline crossmember and the debate about getting ac to work in an s14 with the rb. My question is.. what else should I know? Any general info I should consider before I decide on this swap? Any really big NO NOS?Any words of advice? Thanks in advance

My advice would be consider your goals:How much power do you really want?

The 20 is a great motor, but you also have the 25, 26 and hell even a 30 is an option.

In your S14, either turbo your KA or go rb25, the KA-T it's much faster less weight right out of the box, you can turbo your KA right for under 3k and put down 260 to wheels easy. I drive rb20 hatchs quite often, and they are slow until you upgrade the turbo and boost, and do some twekaing, FMIC and all. My turbo S14 is running 6psi, and does 231 to the wheels and 246 on the torque. I know the rb20 is cheaper, but from what I have heard their trannies crap out around 400. We upped the boost to a 12 psi run at the track a couple of weeks ago, and tweaked the fuel and timing a little more. And it ran a 7.95 in the 8th once we got finally got some traction, we borrowed some slick from a Cobra out there. For daily it's 6 for me though. I am selling my KA turbo setup to go with a RB25 because i have the money to blow on it, so it will be more comparable to my KA, but more potential in the long run, and plus the wow-factor. So if you do any swap you oughtta go RB25 or KA-T, as long as you have good compression your motor will be fine.

RB trannies and KA trannies are the same internally.

RB20 can also make quite a bit of HP if modified correctly.

I doubt you can turbo a KA and be as RELIABLE as an RB. RB engines were engineered to take boost.

it all comes down to what you want really...

I appreciate the input everyone. The reason for the rb20... I really like the motor. Has high revs.. lots of potential.. Wow factor of a skyline engine, but more reasonable than the 25. Eventually in the end I would like to turn it into the rb24.. Something to play around with. The 20 as I have read is easier than the 25 to put in the s14. :D

THE INTERNALS ARE DIFFERENT.... BUT THEY ARE THE SAME BUILD QUALITY AND ESSENTIAL DESIGN. I WOULD PERSONALLY DO A HYBRID transmission FOR THE FACT THAT THE PARTS AVAILABILITY IS HUGE OVER THE RB transmission. I'M GOING TO TRY AND FIND A COMPANY TO DO STRAIGHT CUT GEARS FOR LESS POWER LOSS AND ALOT HIGHER DURABILITY.

12,000 rpm with just a lifter kit? You serious? What about the crank and rods holding up to that? I know sixes are smooth, but 12,000 rpm is about twice the tension load on the rod.

I'm not arguing.... I went to the US F1 Grand Prix a few weekends ago.... and now I want an F1 engine. Or at least something that revs high. 19,000 rpm from 10 cylinders..... well, you have to hear it to believe it.

So I'm all for high revs. Doesn't matter if it only makes 300 rwhp. If it revs past 10k, I want it.
