Considering a USED AWD MO

I've been reading a lot about Mo's recently because I've considered it over a CRV. I'm buying used and probably an AWD for winters. From what I've read about buying any Mo used isn't advised and an even worse idea seems to be the used AWD.

I guess my question is would you all question the reliability of a used AWD Mo, so much so to change to a vehicle with a "good" used car history (CRV).

Thanks for the experienced input.

Well, I'd hate to tell you it's a great idea and have yours turn out to be a lemon, but I have an 04 AWD with all of the options and I love it. I've had it several years and haven't had any major complaints. Just minor things you'd expect from a car with over 90,000 miles on it.
In fact, the Nissan dealer where I have it serviced sent me a letter... they've set up a special department/hotline because the demand for used Muranos is so great they want anyone who has one in good shape to consider trading theirs in or selling it to them outright.
So some folks must think they're a good choice.

I've gotten these letters for every Nissan I've ever owned, and from different dealers over the years. This is merely a ploy (and likely used by other car manufacturers as well) to try to get you to trade your car in on a new one.

And I too have an 04 (SE, with 80K miles) and would heartily recommend this year/model Mo.

Bought my used '07 AWD S a year ago and have been quite happy with it.

I don't mean to be the downer post of the bunch, but be careful when you buy, just like any car.

We've had our 2006 Mo for almost a year. It was a lease return w/ 41,000 miles on it. Fell in love, good looks, handling, power, versatility -- the whole package. Being a leased vehicle I felt pretty confident, and the dealer "assured" us that we "were getting the best vehicle out there, for dealerships do detailed inspecitons on every car we sell, so you can have peace of mind," or something like that.

Long story short, we got it from the dealer w/ 41k miles on it, and I have put 9,000 miles on it. first oil change 4500 miles after i got it, second about 900 miles ago. About a month ago, noticed a little puff of smoke at startup - no continuous, just a little puff, tiny cloud. So I drive it, no change in drive, feels/sounds good. So I take it in on Saturday for them just to look at it and am floored when the tech says "well, your rings are siezed to your pistions, seals are shot...." All this on a car with 50k miles on it. Now I'm locked in a deathmatch between the dealer and the extended warranty place on who should cover it, if at all, claiming that I didn't 'maintain it' -- I though that the two oil changes in the 9000 miles I've had it is pretty good.

Do a carfax, try to get a complete history. Mine might be a lemon or it might be the leasee before i got it didn't do maintenance, but be wary of "oh, this is the best you can buy"

I think It's a good Idea, I got my My 2006 AWD S in 2007, 1 Year old, Clean CarFAX, and Clean overall (one of the reasons it still looks and feels like a showroom car). No Problems Whatsoever apart from blowing a fuse (I think I just blew another fuse for the 12V Power though, Gotta get that fixed before the next long trip -_-). and that's with regular maintenece, nothing other than oil changes, regular checkups on the fluids, air filter changes, and 1 new set of front brake pads

We've seen over and over on these forums how many rented Muranos were abused by their original `owners' (really `renters') and have caused problems for subsequent owners.

Just because low mileage rentals clean up nicely, that doesn't mean they were treated well. In fact, many cars like Muranos (CUV's) are treated as trucks early in their lives, and this can lead to disaster for future owners down the road.
