as long as everything is in good shape and everythings done right and you have good fuel management and timing and such, you should be fine with 250hp on stock internals. Theres a guy on here thats pushin 350hp on stock internals in his daily driver. If i was only runnin about 250hp i would just use stock internals, but if you really want to build it, as long as stuff was ok the furthest i would go would be pistons and maybe some headwork and a cam if you just want a different power band or somethin. Now if you plan on making it rev decently higher then i would get rods.ive heard ross are good pistons, and ive heard pauter makes good rods. theres not really alot of cam choices, i think JWT makes cams for the ka, not sure, someone else will have to tell you more about that.

since ur not going for a whole lot of power get ross pistons and use stock rods, maybe shotpeened. for the DE the s13 cams are already good. i wouldnt go with the jwt's since ur bottom end will suffer. if anything get an exhuast s13 exhuast cam and have it modifed to be an intake cam.

well here's what im thinking of doing, buying a 91+ s13 (dohc) with a motor on its last leg or hi miles, then buying a cheap or free ka and building it... and this will be my daily driver looking for decent mpg, and good driveability. also that exhaust cam to intake is that a wild cam for say? thanks

Why in the world would you build a KA for 250 or even 300whp? Look for one with compression above 160 in all 4 cylinders. Whole motor should cost you about $300. Don't touch the block, don't even lift the head! It's that easy. Really. Save your money.

well i could get a s13 with a decent motor but with it already having 100-130+ miles i dont think that would be a good idea to bolt a turbo on do you? i have 5k for my s13 after i sell mine so if i get a s13 with with good int and ext for 2k that "drives" i'll have 3k for my motor would would u guys do?

my 95 has 113k miles and i will be putting down 300 hp on stock internals. im not even questioning the internals of the motor. just make sure you have a good tune.

If you spemd $3K putting together your own kit, you should be able to reach 300whp easy. You would be better off spending money on good fuel/ignition mgmt than pistons and rods.
