My first post here :D

I travel a bit for work (not too much, maybe 30-40 miles a day) and have been thinking about buying a 2nd car for work trips only. G35 is currently on top of my list but I have some Qs:

1- I will be getting a 2003-4 model with around 50K miles on it. What maintenance/repair costs should I expect in the near future?

2- What signs of trouble should I be looking for? i.e. what are some known issues with that kind of mileage?

Also, I'd appreciate anything else that u guys think I should know!

My other options would be Acura RSX and Nissan 350Z.

03-04 wasthe first 2 years of the production. Have some minor problems like brake dust which is easy fix. Had some trouble with the head unit. Also lately can read some wheel bearings. That's about it. Nothing major. I think they are pretty reliable little cars to own. I would probably gey a warranty on it tho. Just to be on the safe side.

dont know how much you want to spend, but for 15k and 29,000 miles its a pretty good buy.

Remember that Infiniti has a 7 year 60k powertrain warranty on all Infiniti vehicles.

let's see now.. where do i begin

1. radio and a/c - get ready to get that "cd err fo" and have your cd stop working, on top of that your a/c will have a mind of it's own. it'll turn on when it wants to and there's no way of controlling it. controls on a/c will not work to stop it.

2. window motor - they'll suddenly stop working. temporary solution is to bang on the side while holding switch up or down.

3. gas gauge - my favorite, it will be possessed. will not accurately show how much fuel you have on your tank. will never show full tank

4. squeaks - they're everywhere.

these are the very common problems we all share here owning a g35..

Yup, the 03-04 OEM radio does have an issue. Since it shares the circuit board with the AC, that can be affected when it goes out. It doesn't always happen, but it is something to look out for. They changed head decks in 05.

Not all is bad with the 03-04...Brembro brakes were an option for the coupe that they dropped in 05.

The other issues are in every year...some cars are worse than others.

The gas gauge thing and the squeaks are known issues that are covered under maintenance orders.

Thank you guys for the replies

I am getting this car as a commuter so I am thinking no more than $10-11K and from what I can see so far that only gets an 03-04. I can live with those issues, except for the squaking maybe. My main concern is mechanical issues as I will be putting a fair amount of miles on it. I can take care of basic maintenance (changing brake pads/rotors, oild, etc.) and I do that for my current car but anything more serious than that is beyond my experties!
