Hi Guys n Gals,

I've just discovered something rarer than hen's teeth. A Q45 in Iowa!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...A1318

As I look at the photos, I'm not thrilled about the interior color/condition, but I'm less thrilled by the red stripe and Caliper coloring outside.

135k miles, 4-5 owners in the past. I've been looking for a couple months now for a Q and this is the first local-ish one I've seen. It was purchased at a car auction. Has a blinking airbag light. Body looks to be in decent shape.

I'm reading forums like crazy to know what I'm getting into, because I've always loved the Q. Any feedback you guys could give would be very helpful.

Do you guys see anything that you'd take issue with in the photos from a mechanical reliability standpoint?

Thanks, Winterz

I don't see a lot that's appealing about it. Cars with this much aftermarket paint work are usually abused pretty badly. From a mechanical standpoint, the half empty master cylinder with nasty black fluid isn't a good sign. Pop charger/hot air intake - also bad. Unless you can get it for less than $1k I would pass...

Unless you have a service history it is hard to say. You can easily spend $4-5k just on maintenance items with those miles. Also you can only trust experienced mechanics to work on them and they are hard to find and expensive. One trouble area are fuel injectors and fuel pumps. A couple quick checks are inside of oil filler cap for sludge and valve covers for leaks. It should surely be worth $1k as a parts car if the engine is good.

Not too many of the older ones on eBay anymore. Used to have 20 or 30 at any one time.

How is it for rust. Might be better to find one from a non snow area. Is it a T (touring) model. Or can a standard have hicas

I grew up near DSM

This is what you look at before even looking at a car. Pictures hide more than they reveal.

Thanks Guys!!!

I'm going to go at least drive it, I haven't driven one in a while. Only 2 hours away.

New York/Chicago car, but he says no rust.

Finding a mechanic, well, that will be interesting... I'll probably end up doing some of the work myself, buying the service manual and scavenging the forums.

Are parts that hard to come by? I've seen a lot of talk about parts cars.

Regards, and thanks again, Brad
