Currently, I am a muscle car man. I have a 94 Mustang GT but Im considering buying a 240 and trying a new route. Instead of drag racing I want to try auto cross and drifting, something the SN95 Mustang isnt to great at. I have a few questions for you guys on the 240. How much power can its running gear (trans and rear end) handle before they start to break down and how much weight can you remove from one, excluding the drivers and passenger seats and dash. And what kind of gear ratios do you run in the rear end? Any other pointers are tips would be appreciated. I want to get into drifting more then autox but i want to be capable of both.

the tip/advice that i'll give you would be to search, nobody wants the same threads that talk about the same things over and over

first off i will say this, there are alot of guys on here all they wanna scream is search just to warn you. second off i'm not like that i will help what i can. i have a 91 240sx also known as an s13. 91 was also the first year for the ka24de motor in them aka twin cam. mine is moreless stock so i can't answer the power number when things start to break, but i have heard upwards of 400 horse to the wheels for the rear, maybe that will give yuo an idea. there are also several swaps available from the ca18, sr20, rb series, ls1 chevy, etc etc. to my knowledge all 240's came with a 4:08 rear gear ratio. good luck on some of the questions i could not answer and welcome to the site. and i really wish mods would do something about all these people that just wanna say search. i am tired of seeing new people come in and ask a questions and that be the first response, doesn't put a good image on for the site imo. and again welcome to the site

Good questions, but I think searching may help.

The rear (Nissan R200) is a strong unit. And aftermarket internal upgraded are plentiful. I think the R200 can handle a solid 6-700 ft lbs at 3000 lbs all day. The axles, well you might wanna upgrade those.

As far as power, you can make what you want. The Ka-T, and SR setups will allow for a nice 250-400 RWHP, an easy 300 all day. You can make more, but it cost a lot.

You can swap, RB inline 6 engines, V6's V8's, whatever you want really.

My car as it sits is about 2720 lbs at 430RWHP on a mustang dyno. Its kinda stripped down, but not too bad.

Check this out. (check out the list of build threads).
