This idiocy *should* horrify Christians and Conservatives (big C!) alike.

It takes an awful lot of nerve to think you're qualified to extensively re-write the Word of God because parts of it don't match your political sensibilities.

http://conservapedia.com/Conse...ehood

I think that any of us who have studied the Bible could point out places where we happen to think that it may have been poorly translated or where original intent was misrepresented, but to say that one is going to re-write is as "conservative" on a wholesale basis is utter lunacy.

I would troll the snot out of this site, but it seems that half the western world is already doing that.

the 'word of god' was written hundreds of years after the fact by humans in the highest position of political/religious power at the time. i feel like you should have more problems with the original bible before you start worrying about a small group of people rewriting it for an audience that seems to be non-existent.

to me, this rewriting is not any different than the original draft of the bible. its all just stories and peoples convenient interpretation of them.

I agree that all current translations are human interpretations of the divine and no more.

My beef is that this crew presumes that they KNOW all the original intent and they are re-writing the whole thing to match up to all this stuff that they're so 100% peachy-keen sure about.

The phrase "translation" is very misleading for this project. This is a re-writing of the Bible, designed to a purpose. Not good.

Agreed, Hashy.

However, irrelevant group is irrelevant.

Doubt you'll find them replacing the Good Book anytime soon.

+1 - But I don't think it's going to go mainstream....

I mean, the Bible is always been re-translated with more current understandings of the ancient texts, so words may change here or there...

But a re-write to a purpose wouldn't be right at all. It would never be approved by ANY modern Christian Church.

Absolutely.

I didn't mean to somehow pose it as an imminent threat to all things good and decent. It was mainly for the lulz.

Next thing you know, liberals will be trying to re-write science. Oh, wait.....

^true. Shouldn't worry about the little ppl trying to do wrong. It's a small group of idiots with nothing better to do. You either believe or accept it, orcontinue believing the word of God as it's been for 100s of years.

I thought religious topics were strictly prohibited on our Politics forum.

Yes, but there is a balance between too hard and too soft a stance on this in the Politics forum. We try to be a bit less hard as long the conversation stays on track ...

If any thread starts getting too far intrusive into sensitive areas, it will get locked and deleted as needed.

I've noticed that, and also that persons whom post in this section are generally given a little more leeway with their posts provided they are not direct personal attacks. Generally as long as you bring intelligence to the conversation and intelligent posts as well, you can pretty much talk about anything in this section from what i've seen.

yeah that seems to be true. thats because the regular members of this section of nico generally are mods, or guys who have been around the block enough to have earned the respect of the mods. that being said, the rules still apply.

This isn't really a religious debate...we're not pitting muslims vs. jews...etc.

We're just discussing a topic that pertains to one religion, and the pros vs cons regarding that topic. It's not a religious firefight, like some threads could turn into.

I think we've shown, time and again, that all viewpoints are welcome, as long as they're presented in a logical and well-thought out manner.
