For those of who swapped thier RB25 using the R33 x-member how did you connect the steering? If I have the steering column from the Skyline, can I use it and will it work???

you just have to bend the s13 steering lines a bit and i used ghetto zip ties to hold it to the front of the xmember. here is a picture

No. Your not listening. The steering column. And no mine does not reach. It's like an inch too short.

The steering shaft should be telescoping and you should be able to pull it an inch to reach.

Yeah right. You *should* be able to pull it out some, but please realize that I beat the crap out of my steering shaft with clamps and hammers and it would not budge so much as a milimeter. I feel your pain, S13Sil-line.

So yes, all shafts were designed to be telescoping, but I can say from first hand experience that my 9 year old shaft would definitely not telescope. And he's got an S13, so it's even older.

I ended up cutting the shaft and welding in a piece of 3/4" Sch40 steel pipe to make it reach the rack. In the future, if I come across an inexpensive steering shaft that does telescope, I may replace this.

Of course you'd need a man for that job..:D Just joking.Have you tried using pb blaster?

I don't know what pb blaster is.... but I used a torch to rosebud the outer shaft to bright red-yellow (just below melting) with no luck.

Loosen the two bolts underneath the crossmember that holds the steering racks to the crossmember. After doing this you should be able to rotate the steering rack around. Then hook up your steering shaft to the rack, rotating the rack around until your shaft fits. Then tighten up the bolts underneath the crossmember and joints.

I don't believe that's possible. The rack has an eccentric (oblong) steel mount point on one side. It cannot be turned.

PB blaster is one of the best penetrating oils. It will eat rust and I'll sure the shaft is stuck because of it. In my experience with stuck parts it's best when soaked over night with PB.

Yes it does have a triangle shape thing on one side, but if you loosen up the 2 bolts you can turn it a little so that the shaft will fit. One of the bolts holds that triangle point in place. That's how I got mine in. I was stuck for a while trying to hammer and connect my steering until I loosen up those two bolts.

Hmmm.... I also tried this after projectrb240sx mentioned it a while back. I loosened all 4 bolts holding the rack and used a crowbar to turn the rack while I re-tightened the bolts. It might have turned 5 degrees, but no more. Maybe I did something wrong.

Anyway, it would not have helped me. I needed almost 1" more shaft length. But if this really works, then it will almost certainly move the shaft away from the O2 housing, so that's an advantage.

Maybe it's only possible on S13s?
