I have a 93 ka24de and plan on turbocharging it. What would be the advantage of using an aftermarket forge rod such as Crower vs the factory forged rod? Is the material different or is it just a cool factor?

Adam... I'm guessing those are Crower rods? Where did you get the pistons/rods?

Adam, do you have the part number for those ARP head studs? What compression ratio and cylinder bore are you running with those pistons from Ross?

Stock for the SOHC somewhat of a question. The SOHC was first avaliable in a 9.1:1 CR, later Nissan lowered the CR to 8.6:1...at least in the states. Not sure about Canada models. Do you know what is the actual CR in your motor? From the flat top design, I would think it is the 9.1:1 CR. Is this correct? Also what pistion rings did you decide to use in your setup?

Wow, really! Do you still have the job number for the Ross pistons? I would like to use those pistons for my project. But don't you think that maybe you should have lowered the CR a little bit lower since your planning to run 25PSI? Perhaps like 8.2:1 or so just so that their is less stress on the rest of the motor??

the car is really only driven on the track...so i just run race gas....so its not an issue...

though i did destroy a head last year when the wastegate line caught on fire and i boosted to 27psi and detonated....chipped a valve on #3 and cracked the head on #4, and blew out the head gasket..

sorry don't have any job number on the pistons

ADAMHU: if it isnt too much trouble, do you have any close up pics of the stock ring lands?

as you can see the first ring land on the custom piston is almost twice as thick as the stock piston

Ahhh, but of course, racing fuel. Since you don't have the job number for the Ross pistons, how would you go about ordering replacement pistons with the same specs if need be? Have you had any problems with the total seal rings? I have heard many bad things about them, but nothing that has been proven with any merit.

i would just go back to my engine builder..since he would be fixing the motor anyway...he designed the piston specs in the first place..i just told him what i wanted..

so far nothing went bad with my rings...i have 2 years of racing on them...maybe about 2000km of hard use

Adam, as far as head work is concerned, have you ever thought of using stainless steel valves?

yes...but they would all have to be custom made...so far the stock valves have lasted ok....

True, I was thinking it would be worth it though. By the way, what type of spark plug do you use and what heat range did you select??????
