Hi all,

I tried with a RS232 cable and it dosen't fit. Does anybody know the name of that cable. And by the way if anybody know a good software that control the data coming from the car I would really apreciate it.

Thank you for the help

in your software search, are u trying to control ur ecu, or just view what it is doing in real time datalogging?

if u just want to view it, then all u would need is a software, hook it up and u should be good.

but if u r trying to control it, tune it, change fuel maps, whatever u want to call it, im pretty sure u will have to install something into the ecu in order for u to do any ecu tuning. i dont think its possible to hook up ur laptop via consult port and start changing things in ur ecu.

i am personaly looking into nistune for standalone ecu tuning. if u were to choose to use them, u can also get the cable u need through them.

emance maks a consult cable for like $60 that lets you datalog realtime, and test n tune but it wont save the changes onto your ecu. itll save onto your laptop though so as long as you keep your lappy hooked up, you're good to go lol. i bought it just as an easy way to check my CEL codes

yeah thats the emance one. you gotta buy the serial to usb cable to use it with a newer laptop, or a reg old serial cable for old lappy's like mine. they're like $5.

i aint trying to down anybody or anybodies opinions of a tuner but before u make a decision about something like that, make sure u do some of ur own research. i went and checked out the ebay store, they werent to clear on what exactly there products do. i went to ther website, half of it doesnt work, some of it just takes u to there ebay store again, and again, even on there personal website, they arent verry clear on there products and what they do. they also have very cheap prices, i am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for", and ecu tuning is amongst the most important aspects of ur car, in my opinion, more important then any other mods u do to ur car.

i found a thread at KA-t.org, a lot of negative things about them, mostly there customer service.

http://www.ka-t.org/forums/vie...527e7

some people claim to have good experiences with them, from what i see, way more negative then positive. from what i see, i wouldnt use them but that is just my opinion.

im not telling u they are bad, ive never used them. all im saying is that u should be verry clear with yourself on what exactly u are looking for in ECU tuning or data logging capabilities and do plenty of research to make sure u r buying what u want.

either way, good luck on whatever u decide to go with.

ok, lemme get more specific. first i'll reiterate. the emance consult cable is simply for testing. like i already said, it does not save any changes you made to your ecu, only your laptop. jason is very clear on that. that is why its so cheap, its plug and play without even touching your ecu. as far as all the negative stuff about emance, that's about their rom tunes. he seemed ot have been selling people generic tunes bought by jwt or enthalpy that are not specific to your application. that was the problem. it wasnt tuned to your specifics so people were having tons of trouble and his customer service did/does suck. i had a lil trouble with service myself. but like i also said before, i got this cable solely for the purpose of scanning my codes without having to take out the ecu, it's plug and play.

Correct.. you use the same cable and connect it to the same port.. the Consult one.. but you'll need to add a daughterboard to the ECU in order to be able to change maps and modify values..

I haven't hear about many options there.. NisTune is about the only thing i've seen..

You can always chip it and program the chip on a programmer, but that wouldn't be "on-the-fly" as you need to take the chip out, burn it, test it.. and so on..

The software I was saying (Nisasn Data Scan and the like) will only allow you to view info and perform some basic test like turning on/off some solenoids, getting ecu diag. codes.. etc, etc. Still a good investment to know what's happening with the engine.

no exposed electronics (all SMD inside connector), proper consult plug (no hacked ATX connector) and isnt using calums DIY design (which was intended for DIY as name implies, not ebay pimping) like the emance one

and cheaper ($55AU posted = $40US compared with $64US). and USB cable for a bit over $50US posted if u dont have serial.

good question...i'd hope he didnt just register once himself then give out the software with his details with all the cables - given he's just using someone elses consult cable design (intended for DIY only) it wouldnt surprise me if he has been

although now obd scantech is free (with the 'temp access' name/serial from their website) it probably doesnt matter so much

isaac from scantech said he was not aware and there is no agreement

youngun21a (or anyone else who bought it), did you receive a serial to register it, or did it work straight away (perhaps cracked/modified etc).

can u post the link and any other info he gave you (or pass it on directly to obdscantech at usa.com)

scantech guy said that he must have edited the exe to get EMANCE in the title because that doesnt change (even when registered) so he's definitely doing something dodgy
