Hi everyone I'm new to the site here and noticed there is a lot of knowledgable people on here that may have an answer. I have a 2003 350z with 106,000 miles. Car was dealer owned and only had one other owner for two years. This engine has been more mysterious to me then area 51. Noticed the car was running real ruff one morning. Took it over to a shop to run a diagnostic on it. On the way there the check engine light was flashing for misfire's. So i knew that but ran the test anyway and came up with multiple misfire. So I replaced all the spark plugs and noticed the last two closest to the firewall on either side was drenched in oil. Replaced the spark plugs with NGK platinum's and just got worse. Idle was real ruff afterwards so I replaced the PCV valve. Drove it for the first time this morning from my barracks to the squadron about a half mile and no misfire's. But the light is still on and can feel something's still not right. Seems to lag on acceleration. It's just not the same as before. Any thoughts ?

Sorry that it was a problem that brought you here, but we're glad you found us!

It's probably the seals in the sparkplug tube wells...that would explain your rough engine, 100K miles sounds about right for that to show up. Unfortunately you can't just replace the seals, they're integrated into the valve covers, so you'll need new valve covers.

Welcome to NICO! :badger

Thankyouuu and yea that might explain the oil in the tubes as well when I pulled the plugs!
Should I just go with a new entire valve cover? And replace both?

If it were me (and I'm sure it soon will be) I'd replace them both at the same time, better in the long run - and you know you won't have to do it again anytime soon. The valve covers aren't cheap though, they're in the $200 range, each.

There is one other option, there is a company out there called R&D factory that offers either a do it yourself kit to replace yours (you drill them out with a hole saw) and replace with new seals, or you can get a new set from them and ship back your old ones.

And from one old soldier to another (or marine, airman or sailor)...Thanks for serving! :patriot:
