I already searched but still kinda confused about the situation. I know that th rb25det is an interference motor and that when changing the timing belt everything needs to be at TDC. what happen when everything is at TDC when I took the belt off, but when I tried to put it back on, the cams pulley moved from the TDC to about an inch or 2'oclock to 3'oclock. Both pulleys moved about an inch at the same time. I thought I couldn't moved the pulley so I put the belt on where I marked it and everything back on. once the crank pulley was back on, I tried turning the crank and it would turn smoothly for about 270 degrees before the smoothness became rough (I really had to tried to turn it). my brother (honda tech) said it's because of the spark plugs being in it and that if I take it out, then roughness would not be rough but back to smooth. I'm thinking that I messed up because of the cams pulleys moving, did I? If I did, how can I fixed it? also I know I should do a compression test but will a compression test hurt it (if I have bent a valve)? please let me know if I can take the belt off and tried to realigned everything (I'm thinking that I can't because of it being an interference motor and that you are not suppose to move anything when the belt is off.)thanks for your input.

Your brother is right about the spark plugs. With them in, the motor is building compression as you turn it.

You explanation is kinda of confusing so someone else may be better suited to try and help you.

i had the same thing happen to me. Honestly, it should be fine as long as you didn't keep rotating all the assemblies. Although you should do a compression test afterwards. You should be fine.

There should be timing marks on the back timing cover for the cam gears and marks on the cam gears themselves. There should also be a mark on the lower timing cover for the crank pulley.

Line the dots on the cam gears up with the marks on the back timing cover, I believe the lobes on the first cylinder should be pointing directly away from each other.

With the crank pulley on and the belt off ALL the gears (crank and cam) rotate the crank to line up the correct timing mark (I believe its the second from the left, use your service manual)

Slip the belt on, making sure to be very precise with the markings and not to rotate anything. Pull the spark plugs and rotate the crank slowly. If you run into ANY resistance something isn't lined up right. (or I don't know what I'm talking about)

I'm doing this from memory so if it isn't right someone please correct me so the OP doesn't do something wrong.

well, my parents owned a shrimp boat and thursday will be opening season so I towed my car back to my mom house and let my brother check up on this before I messed it up. he has a mechanic/performance shop. this will be their fisrt skyline motor but I have faith in them. The built a turbo nsx and bunch of supra and sr20, so I'll give them the honor of learning a rb motor. Has anyone received a defected waterpump? I replaced the water pump, that's why I had to take off the timing belt off, but the waterpump that was in there is actually new. I only put about 5 miles on it but every mechanic shop I brought it to told me it's the waterpump. When I changed it out, it was still new and it spin. just trying to trouble shoot my overheating problem. thanks ahead.
