So i am showing my 240 to a new friend and as he is looking he finds a rust spot, than explains how it got like that etc. Basically not purposely making me feel like **** and wanting to sell my 240. My reasons for wanting to sell it are because i fix rust now but later it will still be there or more, I would like to throw a ton of money into it but sort of in doubt because i don't know if its worth it. I know it will run me around 500-700 to get it fixed which i will never get back if i sell it, so i am thinking if i should fix it or sell it and begin to stack for a 350z, Subaru RS 2.5 Coupe or something with four doors 5 speed and a thrill waiting to happen. I just turned 18 money is tough but i can have around 8 grand or so saved by this summer including the sale of the car.

I honestly want to keep the car but btw suspension, body, paint etc i am sort of stumped my dad says to sell it and lets go for the 350z that i am going to dump X amount of money and get little x back if i decide to keep it

well i sure would take a 350 before a 240. lol

but, it seems like you have some money to play with and if it were me I would dump it in the 240. if you are too worried about the rust find a cheap shell.

Yea i was going to buy coil overs this month and i see this, i can fix it but with the 1000 for my coils i can try and find a shell and swap everything which will be a ***** sort of but worth it. I would take the 350z also =), but i also love this 240 it just pisses me off that i bought it checking it out thinking there is no rust so i go do my 5 speed swap i find a bit and let it slide and than i find some more gets me mad but i think its still alright nothing major and than i see this today and it screwen* (want the Z but than i really cant have anyone in the back made me furious. I wanted to take this car and build its suspension completely and track the **** out of it but the rust is such a hold up and its like cancer it never ends just spreads.( It can end but i dont have that type of money nor sort of that passion to strip the whole car and get everything fixed)

Yea on both sides cause i also have the strut tower rust and the wheel well on the driver side

way to over-react. just fix it, all you really need is some sheet metal and welding capabilities. that is, if i can see where youre talking about in my mind.

ive got some killer rust issues on my damn roof, and im still pushin through it. if all else fails, ill just get a huge *** roof patch or something.

but if youre that worried about rust, perhaps you should just save for months and months and months to get a 350z. somehow. dont mind the killer insurance rates for being so young and having a 350z, of all cars.

hahah thats EXACTLY the spots i have rust starting.... the front strut towers probably isnt structural and i got a guy thats gonna help me cut it out and weld some new metal in, im gonna undercoat it as well

the pass side rear wheel well has a hole thats sorta rough but ill tackle that as well....

why not buy a beater and fix the 240

honestly w 8k your not gonna find a 350z... your gonna have to make payments and let me tell you interest is a b*tch and cars depreciate really fast...

depends where, if its not where the strut connects at teh top, or the botton where frame meets its thin sheetmetal

if you weld a plate in its not a hard fix...

your priorities are in the wrong place. you talk about getting coilovers, but dont want to invest money into fixing the car, but you want to sell it to get a 350 or a subaru. what do you want dude? questions you gotta answer honestly here. i would take the thousand and get the rust repaired and have it undercoated and get the coilovers out of the picture. im not sure of your part of the state, but up here they're pretty pointless.

If you really like your S13 and planned on doing upgrades to it anyway, might as well fix the bad spots it may have now, before you dump real money into i.e coils and what not. If your parents are going to pay for the Z, Subaru, whatever, then I say go for it. If your the one who is going to pay for the newer car, I say think about it. 3 0r 4 years are going to pass, the car is gonna start to give you wear and tear problems by then and guess what, you're still paying for it. Sometimes I think of selling my bucket of crap and buying a Subaru WRX, but Subaru's are 10K+ and I don't want to be paying for a car for 3 or 4+ years, and anything could happen in that amount of time i.e lose my job, get runned over by a bus. My bucket of crap is already paid for, and it's cheap to maintain.

I got quoted for 600 and 500 in another place, only thing that bothers me is that i fix this and i know there's more. So it sort of isn't worth it only way to fix it is to take the whole car strip it and take it to the shop and get it done the right way.

My parents are paying for **** lol my father just insisted for me to do so, and as of now i don't know i am thinking of selling her and buying a nice 5 speed s14.

I am yet to hear of an s14 with rust even though it is very possible i still haven't.

The coils may be pointless up there but if your going to track your car and etc than it is worth getting them

this is what i would do and what im probably going to do.

strip the car for the interior and rug, etc. and find every little peice of rust in there. bring it to a shop and get that estimated and go for it. my cars a peice of rust too, im afraid to even jack it up because i feel like the jacks gonna go threw the fuc*in thing. BUT i love my car and i dont want anything else... unless a skyline or s15 of course.

i was thinking of getting an s14 and just selling my car but i dont want it. i guess just do whatever YOU thinks worth it. i would keep it if i were you

Like DirtyGhettoKids said, if you want do it right, strip it and take it to the shop and have them take care of the rust. If it's too much just sell it, it aint worth it. Get an S14 or something like that. Just be careful about getting into a new car, unless your parents are willing to help you out, and IMO, this isn't the time to be spending a ton of money on a new car, when there are perfectly good used ones for a fraction of the price.
