I got bored of my stock s*** air intake and decided to buy a $60 ebay intake, rather than a real expensive one for my 93 ka24de 240. It looks like its really nice, and will fit good. There are 3 hose holes on my ebay intake, one will go to valve cover, and other 2 i think are just vacuum. I was about to take my stock intake off and install it the other day, and i realized that there is one big hose thats connected to my stock intake, right under/next to the radiator hose that goes to the engine, and radiator! It comes from underneath! It looks like the hose is connected to some kind of box. Im wondering what that hose is, and if name brand intakes, have that extra hole for it on the bottom of the intake! I dont know if i can install this intake, or return it! I would have to plug that hose from the source if i were to install this intake! Does anyone know what im talking about or how to help me?? This is making me crazy! Ill try to post pics later if i can figure out how to do it from photobucket!

It's a resonator, take it off.

All it does is make the intake "quieter" I guess. It is useless, remove it.

Oh ok cool. You sure its okay to remove it?? So do i just disconnect it from my stock intake, and install my new intake? Or do i take the hose off both sides, and plug the hole where it came from??? It looks like it goes to that box, do i just take that whole box off or????

No its not the resonator. The resonator is right next to the driver's side headlight.

The tube you are talking about is a vacuum line. If you see this pic from a weapon r intake (>$250), it has a bigger tube in the bottom where you would hook up that line.

Cheaper intakes dont seem to have it. I run my intake with that line open.....hmmm now I wonder if thats causing any problems? I hope more knowledgeable members can chime in.

Edit:
Unless you are talking of the little black box next to the powersteering fluid reservoir....in that case thats an emissions box

you know pics would help

Post some pictures so we can get a better idea of what you're talking about. Take a minute to snap some photos and on mspaint, you can indicate exactly what part you're talking about. Make it a little easier for us to help you out, else we can be here all day poking at random parts underneath you're engine bay. Heck, even an ebay link to this "intake" you purchased would help..

No.

The stock air intake has the valve cover breather hose, and the two other vacuum lines, exactly like the OP has stated. It ALSO has a a box attached to the fan shroud underneath it, and it's a resonator box. It is attached with a *big hose* like the OP also said. That picture that you posted, I've never seen a KA intake with an opening that large for a "vacuum" line. If it's for anything, it's for the tube and resonator box.

To the OP, if your intake only has 3 ports (one for the vacuum to valve cover, and the two other vacuum lines), then just simply remove the stock intake and resonator, and install the new intake in it's place. If it has a spot for the resonator, then just put the resonator back in...

It is the resonator. On dual cam KA's on the left side of the engine bay, there is a TUBE attached to bottom of the intake, that goes to an EMPTY box. It's a resonator.

For even more clarification, here's a post I made back in 2009. The picture is down, but you get the picture. (no pun intended)

I'm absolutely 100% sure you can remove it. Remove the WHOLE box in general, and forget about it.

Also, read my post above.

Take it off its for if the intake sucks up water and then the water goes into that box thing instead inside the engine.

Dude, nobody is running anything open on an intake pipe! :wtf2: We are talking about a pipe not having a hole for a hose that leads to it!

But it fits great, sounds great, sucks great lol but i didn't notice any real throttle response or power yet! (maybe it needs to be broke in?) But i will make a youtube video of it tomorrow and post the link to this thread! Thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it! I set up a photo bucket account but i don't know how to use it yet, i may post pics on here too tomorrow, but i will defendently post a link to a youtube video of it tomorrow! Thanks again guys!
