Since there is currently no CAI for the 08 3.5, Im hearing the Current Aftermarket Intakes wont make a difference in HP/TQ. Am I right or wrong?

As well as being new to this group im Semi-New to Tuning..So Without going crazy $$ wise What are my options for some Gains?

For the best performance gains out of an intake right now, you need to go with AEM. K&N will be out with a similarly designed intake soon also. For the price, the best you can do right now is intake and exhaust. Not really many more bolts on out there.

and can't forget lol but everyone in sac i ask that question to, they all say nitrous lol but ya, exhaust is the first thing i'd go with. i tested my car before and after i got my exhaust (forgot the weather conditions but were probably very similar). with the stock muffler i got a 14.4 in the 1/4 mile. with my 2n5" cat-back exhaust to my magnaflow muffler with no 3rd cat, i got a 14.2 with my CVT 3.5se

there should be a y-pipe out octoberish time, which gives better performance.

What exactly is a y-pipe used for? im guessing that it has something to do with your exhaust, but like where is it located and what are the benefits?

also is that mod compatable with the 2.5?

as i understand it, the Y pipe is the pipe that connects the 2 headers to the cat back. a 2-1 pipe, hence the name Y pipe. supposed to be less restrictive than the stock y pipe. on a 4 banger, i believe the name is downpipe, cuz its only got one header. again, this is how i understand it, but i could just be a silly idiot. hope this helps.

The y-pipe is for the V6

new headers + y-pipe + cat back exhaust + intake = the most bolt on performance youre going to find for this car......with the exception of a tubro and NOS of course

But you are right, it is very difficult to get any real gains on these with bolt-ons and I wouldn't expect any real break throughs, even ECU flashes have had minimal gains but hey any little extra is good....the VQ has been a real beotch since its inception to get significan't "easy" gains...but hey where there is a will (and CASH) there's a way.

from my understanding and reading the web is a y-pipe is the best mode for your buck, about 15-20WHP. But the car will be dyno'd before and after the y-pipe is one so we will know for sure how much power the ypipe puts down.

I highly doubt you see 15-20 whp with a y-pipe. Especially without other intake or exhaust components.

maybe headers..... headers are known to give a pretty big increase in performance and i think stillen said 15-20 whp for there headers

but remember stillen said headers for the 3.5 will cost roughly around $1.6k because of the extensive labor.

Its much more realistic to see 15 whp from headers considering the chambers of air flow you are changing. With a Y-pipe, it doesn't matter a whole lot that the Y is opened because the headers still have a bad flow to them, and it holds up the exhaust. Now, with headers, y-pipe, and 2.75 inch exhaust, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw 25whp

Does the Y pipe delete any of the cats, or would it any way make one fail an emissions test/ trigger the cel? Also won't it make our cars obnoxiously loud?

Also can anyone say who is making this product and an estimated price?

I have a custom Y pipe with no cats back to my 3 inch borla. Its loud as hell, and trips my SES light somtimes. Its really where you place your O2 sensors as to if they go off or not

Im guessing its especially loud due to you not having cats. So what will you do when you have to get it inspected? btw Could I trust a local shop to make a y pipe and would it be expensive?

oh man, you got to post a vid of that lol my magnaflow muffler is only 2.5" and when i took off my cat it sounded really nice, your car must sound amazing..... you've messed with the car more then any of us so i was wondering if theres any way i can tune it to keep the RPMs a little lower doing hwy driving. right now it sits at about 2100 RPM and my exhaust is loudest between 2k and 3k RPM and causes rattling. i'm going to put sound deadening in the car later on but i also want to take off the cat again and if i can install the headers myself and can get a hold of some CARB legal headers later on, my car will be even louder. since CVT has an infinite amount of gear ratios, is there any way i can get it to keep the RPMs low until i hit the little "click thing" when you floor the gas all the way
