I'm pretty sure, but not certain, on this so I just want to be sure. Pretty much the only major differences between the FWD CA's and RWD CA's is lack of a crank girdle and oil squirters, and the piston dome (compression ratio) is different on the FWD's and a different intake cam for the CA16, correct? And maybe the CA16 head may be different somehow? (valve covers are different, too)

So if I was able to pick up one or several FWD motors for cheap would it be worth it just to have spare cranks, rods, and heads? Plus I guess there's also coil packs, CAS's, and maybe a few other electronic odds and ends?

Yeah, if you can find one without a busted block, you can work with it because the whole engine is actually serviceable for turbocharging duties.
Rule #1 in this game: Your JDM engine will fail, so either rebuild first or save coins for impending engine failure; especially the worthless turbocharger.
A USDM CA18DE can be impregnated with the same parts as its JDM turbocharged brethren, so all in all you've got to "spend to win"

Yep  I wish I had more money right now. There's a 1988 N13 in a junkyard near me that was smacked in the front (automatic, though. What was Nissan thinking?). luckily that isn't going anywhere so I can pull that motor whenever. But there's also a 1988 N13 Probably 150-200 miles away with a bad motor, but comes with another motor (both CA18's) for $500. That thing would be perfect for my build. Oh well, maybe when I have money another candidate will pop up somewhere.
