Confirm?: '01 QX4 engine put in '03?

Just wanted to confirm although I can't find any reason not able to.

QX4: Can I put an '01 engine into '03. (Pulling engine out of wrecked 01 to replace bad 03 engine)

Even if it can be done, are there any known issues or would anything have to modified or would any other 01 parts be needed? Ie everything should be compatible right? Thanks!

This is not a thorough answer, but if memory serves, the engines do vary a bit from year to year.
Coil packs are different, throttle body assemblies and throttle cable linkages are different.
And a few sensors are different as well, meaning they'll have different connectors (MAF sensor for one).
Check everything on your old engine against the wrecker, and make sure you get everything you need to make them compatible.
Also, make darn sure that the engine come from a truck with the same transmission as yours.
The engines are not the same on an auto transmission truck vs. a 5 speed.
I'm sure there's more, but that's all that comes to mind right now.
Hopefully more folks will chime in with more advice.

Yeah both are automatics.

Also, will have access to use any parts/connectors from the 01 vehicle, essentially any parts under the hood of 01 can be used as well. So it sounds like compatibility will be fine, just might have to use a few more parts than just the engine???

I would suggest putting in a new rear water valve (thermostat) and hose while you have the engine out, if that had not crossed your mind. And I would probably replace the gaskets on the back of the heads where the water outlet tube bolts up. You cannot get to those gaskets after the engine is buttoned up.
