Okay... this is where I started:

Then I went to add the spoiler... and it wanted to remove the moonroof... so I canceled that.

Then I went to add the iPod interface... and it added the spoiler...

So... I ended up with this:

So the spoiler will only fit on the car with a moonroof if you have an iPod connector...

I honestly have no life and by posting this thread, I only prove it ;oP(Edit: fixed typo)

That is interesting, I've always had issues with Nissan's package structuring. A few years ago, I tried to "build" a Sentra with a sunroof and manual transmission, which conflicted, as the sunroof required the addition of an automatic transmission. Anyone wanting a "sportier" car would be required to buy the SE-R. Nissan is very inflexible on some of their packages, and some of them simply do not make sense. Another example; you cannot buy the XM package unless you also buy a slew of unnecessary packages, like the convenience package... you also cannot upgrade or downgrade the stereo on either the S or SL... I would've bought the Rockford-Fosgate stereo if it was available to me.

I don't like how Nissan does their packages either. All I wanted was an 6-speed SL with convenience, abs, and sunroof. To get the sunroof I also had to get the audio and xm package.

The only reason I can think of having requirements like this is to limit the number of combinations of the vehicle that will be on the market. Which in turn theoretically make it easier for the customer to find the car they want. This was not the case for me though, it took me 6 months to find the Versa I was looking for.

it also limits the number of styles they have to make... since not every car is made as specified by the customer (though some of use are lucky to catch the order at just the right time to define what gets made and shipped to our dealer)

Yeah, I wanted the Sound Package and was forced to get the Moonroof (which I have never been a fan of to tell the truth...just not a moonroof guy I guess) if I hadn't gotten the deal I did, I doubt I would have gotten the car because I generally don't beleive in paying for stuff in a car I won't use or don't want.

My dealer offered to order me the onyx blue SL with manual trans, beige interior, splash guards, and sill plates that I originally wanted... I agreed, but wanted to test-drive a Versa first, and wound up buying the one I drove (magnetic grey SL with CVT, and all the other things I wanted) because I fell in love with the CVT! Go figure.

At least you guys actually have some choice. Here the only option is auto trans on 2 of the sedans and all 3 hatchs. The last sedan is auto only. You want sunroof? Dealer fit. Want sports bodykit? Dealer fit. 6 stack CD player? Dealer fit. Although it looks like we get more colour choice.Oh yeah, no CVT here. If I had my way I would try and convince my dealer to special order the top Ti sedan with the 6 speed or CVT.

To give a general comments about how product planning in any OEM bundle together different options, these could be one of the reasons, or combination of reasons:

1) PROFIT - some of these options have high profit margins, and will force you to get it by bundling it with an option that many people like.2) TECHNICAL - most of this options need "juice" thus require wirings. If the option are not bundled one way or another, just imagine how many wiring part numbers are required for different combinations. This could also be true for sheet metal.3) LOGISTICS - because of #2 reason, the assembly plant may not be able to handle such number of different problems - because of complexity, and because of plant space...4) DISTINCTION - to clearly separate different models (like S vs SL)...

Just some things to think about :-)
