I am having a hard time finding the Condenser fan relay #1 on my 1993 Q45. As far as I know its a 1993 and should have two relays because its a USA model not a Canadian model. I have looked everywhere near the horns, ambient temperature sensor and condenser fan and have come up one relay too short.

Free fresh air cabin filter (When I measure and make it) to the person who show me where it is!!!

The 94 FSM, page EL-239, shows a cooling fan relay (blue or brown) in the engine compartment fuse box and cooling fan relay (blue) mounted by itself in front of the battery, possibly under the headlamp shroud.

The 90 FSM, page EL-145, shows only a condenser fan relay (blue) in the engine compartment fuse box, same position as the 94 relay, and there in not a 2nd relay in front of the battery.

Where are you seeing reference to condenser fan relay-2?

I have my 1993 Q45 service manual that is falling apart and its shown in their. I think I have a 1990, 1991 and maybe a 1992 Q45 service manuals. But 1992-1993 are all the same when it comes to the fan design. Hatian King are you still around with your 1992 Q45?

Oh yeah 1993 has no recirculated air going back to fresh air mode after 10 minutes. You know when you press the switch... But who says you can't use a 1990-1992 Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning unit!

Yesterday I took out the right (Passenger) headlamp shroud (Black cover) and saw a black box and thought my car was a Canadian version (Daytime Running Light Control Unit). I put it all back together because it was getting late. Today I when driving to work I thought about going to the local Infiniti dealer and asking the senior tech about my problem. If he knew nothing then I would call the engineers at Infiniti and prey some NG50 designers were still there.

But no Today after work I took the right headlamp shroud off and did a little more investigating of this black box. I took what looked like a cover off it only to find a BLUE RELAY!!! Needless to say I am happy I have a USA Q45 and a second relay for the condenser fan.

I replaced the blue relay with another relay and I replaced the brown relay (Relay-2) but the condenser fan refuses to come on. My Craftsman multimeter says the car was 190*F and the ignition was "ON". I did not have enough fuel to keep the car running till it eventually overheated so I will see what happens tomorrow during my drive.

Edit: I just went out and checked, My Condenser fan fuse is not blown... So the condenser fan motor may still be good otherwise the smaller brushes (increased current draw) would blow the fuse eventually. I need to find a small person with small hands to unplug the condenser fan motor connectors.

So Goody and Infiniti Expert (Infinitihelp.com) I am staying true to my word and sending out some cabins free of charge. It may take some time but you will get them!

Infinitiguy...
Were you chasing a non-working AC system?
Did changing the relay (in the headlamp shroud) fix the problem?

My AC died. Replaced the under hood AC relay twice (w/ knock off, then the Nissan part). Did not fix the problem.
I jumper'd the relay per the schematic on the relay... AC worked. Of course it is on 100% of the time.
I only drive it in the summer so no big deal, but I want her running perfect.

Would like to know if replacing the headlamp shroud relay fixed your problem? If you had a problem.
Thanks, Mark

My AC system does not work because I need a new compressor (Does not spin freely). The previous owner (3 years ago) reported to the dealer the compressor makes some noise. Currently the compressor belt is not connected and I loved the power gain from a 1/2 less weight (no belt) and less drag on the engine (no pulley attached to crank). :)

But seriously I am not sure you have a two mode fan because yours is a 1992 Q45. If you jumped the relay and the fan worked, I would say look at the thermoswitch.

Whats the maintenance on the coolant system like?

Today I replaced the engine radiator with a CSF one ($106 shipped). The old one had a loose drain pet c*** and when the upper hose was removed the plastic part of the radiator broke. I straightened out what ever bent fins their were with a handy 10 OHM resistor I found laying around. I also replaced the radiator foam with this: http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardware ... ogId=10053 I used some Harbor Freight double sided tape I just had laying around in the trunk to secure the foam.

I remounted the transmission cooler in front of the radiator by securing it to the metal line that runs behind the condenser. The old one was mount on the radiator by means of zip ties which screwed up some fins.

All in all I would say I got a new radiator for a two hours of my time and $120!

Should I use some thicker weather stripping on the bottom of the radiator as some air can escape their and I do not have the OEM seal in place.

No AC ? That would be unacceptable around here with our temperatures {have not had a single day so far this month under 90 degrees for the high temp, suppose to hit over 100 today}.

Why not look for a used compressor if you do not want to pay for the grossly overpriced OEM unit? I would think that for less than $200 you could get a used part and install yourself, then get it charged up?

Dont bother trying to improve the bottom seal on the radiator, very little to gain from the effort-when the car is in motion, tons of air is being forced thru radiator, and at idle, the fans pull plenty of air thru it also- especially since currently you are not adding the extra heat load from the AC condenser to the mix.

Did you get the CSF aluminum core/plastic end tank radiator? Thats the one I have and so far it has been great {almost 4.5 years and 100,000 miles on it currently}

Sounds strangely familiar... so much heat and humidity that my to do list includes trying to figure out how to get some hvac register boots to stop sweating and dripping condensate on the sheetrock and floor at one of my investment properties today. :squint:

Infinitiguy..
You suggested the Thermoswitch. I can find the connector call out in '94FSM page EL270, Connector E35. I can't find the location for E35 in the FSM? Page EL244 skips the E35 connector. So, where is the Thermoswitch?

Car maintenance: Currently at 80k miles.
AC: New 134A AC kit at 60k mi.

Not sure why you are asking about cooling system maintenance?
She got a new radiator at 40k.
I regularly dump the coolant and refill with fresh.

Thanks

I will take a picture of the thermoswitch connector when I get a chance but for now look on the right of the fan shroud. You should see it as the thermoswitch is on the bottom right of the radiator.

Does the R-134A conversion include ever part of the AC system replaced with R-134A equipment? This will have little to do with your issue but R12 (if you have a licence) is the way to go.

I care about the cooling system maintenance because if you haven't drained and refilled the coolant the thermoswitch will be caked up and will cause the switch to read false temperatures. Meaning the switch will tell the fan to come on at say 250*F instead of 190*F. Was the old thermoswitch re-used or was it left off? I know the CSF radiator (Aluminum core with plastic end tanks) I got had a plastic bolt in place of the thermoswitch hole. I reused my OEM thermoswitch but the condenser fan refuses to come on. Lucky for me this is a simple electrical system!

But I have good news to report!!! I went down to Home Depot and got a foot of ten gauge wire. I cut back some of the coating and jumped the relay connector and the fan came on. I was hesitant at first to do this in fear of the wire melting, But the fuse is rated at 30 AMPs.

So now I need to try a new thermoswitch as my AC is not working. I have a spare compressor that I dropped accidently on pavement (Basement) from a height of a foot MAX. But I don't know if I am wasting my time with that one. I also need the lower radiator because the old OEM one was missing it, But all the clips are their. If only some one could measure the OEM seal so I can match it up?

Found the switch... 3/4 of the way down on the drivers side of the raditor.
I ordered a new Infiniti replacement.

Not sure the details of what was replaced during previous maintenance. It was all done by Infiniti dealer.
Thanks
