Im currently auto right now. When I took the time out to think about it, I don't see how having an auto can allow you to boost a lot, unless you're racing/flooring it. Am I mistaken? Would it beneficial to 5sp swap first? (as I was already planning on 5sp swapping AFTER going KA-T)

Anyone with auto-T want to comment?

You have it backwards, you build boost mid throttle which is sweet, so I could stay at 4psi if I wanted to using partical throttle. Having an automatic KA-T is fun and everyone who has driven my car loves it. When I step on the gas I hit 7 pounds quick and it stays on 7 pounds unless I'm in second and it switched to third, otherwise I could stay in boost in third gear for a while which is awesome.

I'll try to provide you a video, outside and inside the car during driving.

My first Skyline was auto, I loved it. Its easier to launch an auto at the drag strip since you can leave on full boost. Keep the auto...

See, that's what I used to think but I got confused somewhere along the lines...

But the PSI stuff is confusing somewhat...as I thought you had to be at like 4k+ RPMs for turbo to kick in (t3/t04e). But if I were at 7psi, that's just saying that its "the max psi"? Just like peak torque/hp is at a certain RPM?

So what exactly is bad about auto-T? That you can't necessarily control it as if you had a manual?

I have T3/TO4E 50 trim with a .63 AR, I was at full boost by 3200 at the latest and that was 20psi. The Auto will boost by the same I'd figure, maybe a tad slower with no clutch slip.

There isn't anything bad about an auto and boost. People who say there is are simply biased and have no actual proof of anything. Infact, you'll probably beat them at the drag strip.

The bad is I cant find a aftermarket adjustable transmission control computer so the shop can tune shift points and etc.

Another thing istop speed, which for me is like 95mph and yea.... that sucks....

I dont think is the speed limiter, at 6rpm in 3rd gear my top speed is around 95mph. I just cant go higher unless I turn back on overdrive which can't boost in.

Why can't you boost in OD?

Wait...so you turn off OD and drive around like that? So that's why your limit is 95mph? Is it safe to drive around like that on the streets? O_o

Yep. Any driving under 50mph I run overdrive off so I dont switch 3rd to 4th gear and just stay in 3rd. The overdrive (4th gear) is weak and boosting in it only leads faster to transmission failure.

I only turn it on when I'm cruising on the highway.

Most automatic turbo guys run overdrive off.... there are several past threads about this. Yep yep

Just get a transmission cooler, you'll be fine.

He's just scared...OD isn't that weak of a gear. I could see if you're pushing over 300ft lbs of torque through it...but until then. Get a decent transmission cooler, run good fluid...press on.

You act like you have huge balls and arent afaird of anything. Go ahead, run boost and pull hard with overdrive on and see what happens. Plus from what I have read you don’t have an automatic.

I learned about OD and everything from a guy who works on Skyline weekly. Used to be a race car driver himself and knows cars inside and out.

No, your right I don't. But I do know it can be done. Tell me this, why buy a transmission controller if you're not going to use 4th gear?

The enemy of the automatic transmission is heat, use a good cooler and decent fluid and you'll be fine. You're not even using a higher stall converter yet. The only thing you're succeeding in doing is getting worse gas mileage.

I was planning on running a Hayden 404 Automatic transmission cooler anyway.

Good to know I was on the right path!

LOL I suppose.

Honestly I'm getting tired of the auto and want to do a manual swap

Its funny, I'm tired of shifting...lol. But I'm doing an entirely different swap, I'm going with the LS1-t and the auto it comes with. I believe its the 4L60. But yeah, I just want a higher stall converter and thats it. No more shifting for this kid.
