I'm having random people AIM message me, advertising sex sites telling me to click, and it's starting to piss me off. I get about 5 IM's a day, I finally talked to one of these IM'ers, and they told me that they got my IP, and billing info from my local cable company.

Now how would I trace their IP, and get their information? Is there any legal action I could take?

ThankHelps greatly appreciated.

Yup, I get them every day. Are they the ones that popup with a box, and all you can do is click "OK?" If you're getting those ones, go to start -> run -> type "cmd" or "command" -> type "net stop messenger"

If it is AIM messages... well, you're SOL. The only thing you can do is block people not on your buddy list from seeing you. Or just start blocking the spammers one by one, but all they have to do is create a new name.

msg me or email me if you need anymore help. :)

I have to take my new computer back and I'm getting my refund out of it. I bought a HP Pavilion got it home set up and all and the thing wouldnt let me connect to msn, wouldnt let me check my hotmail nor go to the hotmail site without saying "auto search" and crap. A friend of mine said he could just build me one and all I do is buy monitor, keyboard and stuff.

I havent had anyone one AIM message me any junk or crap. I get alot of chain letters in my email or on my yahoo messanger but I just delete them or close it out.

I have not had that problem with AIM or Yahoo messenger. I do have a yahoo address that i do not use anymore and it is unreal the crap that comes to that address. Same thing with an MSN mail account I had. Best thing to do is to just keep adding them to your ignore list, but that even gets to be a hassle after a while.

I can only thing of deffensive actions.

Read through your cable company agreement, make sure you dont "agree" to let them share your stuff.

Make a new Screenname

Register your accounts as people under 13. You'll never get anything! Sometimes you have to give your credit card though.(no cost of course)

What you do in AIM is go to My Aim>Edit Profile, then un- click the allow people to search for me box... that stopped them for me.
