My computer doesn't post. At all.

Background: Computer was working fine in the morning a few days ago. A little hot, but fine. I thought to blow all the dust out so as to get the thing cooled down. So I took it apart, went downstairs, and went at it with my shop vac. I was extremely careful so as not to touch anything, because ESD will rip computers apart. Put it back together a little later in the day, and no post whatsoever.

I was thinking it could be a power supply problem, because I have some ****ty generic compusa brand power supply. I'll be testing that out today when I buy something of a bit better quality.

Processor is fine. And as far as I know the memory is too. Any takes?

As in you can't post here?

Anyways, check the hard disk for errors. Check for spyware and shiat too, that'll do stuff like that (my email was screwed up for quite a while, ended up reformatting... for the 3rd time in 6 months... my computer hates me).

Oh, and that could be it: your computer hates you.

It doesn't POST as in Power On Self Test. In other words, it doesn't boot at all.

Your BIOS is most likely screwed up. In which case, just get a new mobo.

Oh... gotta speak my terms, lol.

Doesn't start... NOW I get why you're saying ps.

Sounds like the PS is shot indeed. Check to see if anything is getting power (do the fans start, LEDs turn on, for instance?). Because if it was a mobo, chip, etc problem then fans should at least try to come on.

Just bought a new ps (a very expensive ps...). Its not the ps.

I don't really want to buy a new motherboard, considering this one cost 200 dollars and is less than 6 months old.

It turns on, but no post.:(

So if your getting power, but its not posting (beeping its post tests), listen for other things because i need more details to help you. Can you hear the HD spinning? All fans come on. And check the video card, because it may be booting but not sending a video signal. Did you put the exact same components back in? And pull your cmos batter (looks like a watch battery) without the power cable in, leave it for ~30 minutes then put it back in and fire her up. Email me at [email protected] if you have to.

video card is fine, hdd's spin, all fans trn on. Already reset the bios a few times. I didn't completely take it apart, just took all the panels off the case and removed the ps.

I really don't know if I can reflash without being able to post.

The board is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe if it helps any.

ugh. Make sure your power is switched to the right voltage and you didn't accedently switch it. Make sure your ram is seated right and your video card as well

AGP cards LOVE poping out.

Does your powersupply fan spin? can you feel a good amount of air comming out?

First thing you should do is unplug everything off your motherboard. unplug IDE cables take out any video cards, network cards. All you should have in there is ram, cpu+fan, video card, and the power supply of course. if it posts with just thoughs components you have another issue.

Done all that;)

Everything is properly seated, power supply is brand new and set @ 115v like its supposed to be. All fans spin, and I can feel air coming. I've done every trouble shooting procedure I know, and I still can't figure it out. Thats why this has me stumped.

BTW I even forced the FSB to run @ 200mhz (failsafe) and even that doesn't work.

Try another test video card, pull the agp and use a pci/onboard if u got it. To flash the bios, i think u can leave it in the sun for a couple days if its not flashable. But if its flashable there should be jumpers on the board to reset it. And did u do the cmos battery thing?

I've done everything everyone has said...most of the time before they posted it. Nothing has worked...I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to live with this P3 500 until I can get the money for an Athlon64.

look over the mobo carefully for paper clips/staples shorting a trace.

you might want to remove the mobo from the case to make sure no forign objects fell in when you opened it.

if it was working before you opened it, its probably something stupid like that, shorting a trace and making the bios refuse to boot.

next time, keep the computer plugged in, and always have bare skin touching the chassis.

i usually lean my elbow on the case with my hands in the comp.

Well my hand was always on the chassis, and there was always part of the chassis touching the ground (NOT on the rubber feet...actually metal on the ground). I've had my share of ESD close calls;)
