Car: 2006 Nissan Sentra SER Spec-V

So I have heard a popular mod for cars now is getting a "performance chip" or a "diamondized chip." However, upon research I have found no such modification. The closes I have found is a unit which allows you to manually program the ECU yourself. Have I overlooked something? Or are these modifications simply taking the car into a performance shop and having the ECU optimized.
