The filament inside bulbs boils off tungsten molecules and thus it increases in resistance with use getting thinner and thinner before it finally fails.
Just like headlight bulbs get dimmer and dimmer before failing.
Why it's a good idea to change bulbs BEFORE THEY FAIL...........do it when it is easy not on the side of the road at night.
The critical headlight, turn signals, and brake bulbs, back up, tag etc.
Ever get pulled over and ticketed for burned out bulbs........nice excuse for a strip search.
Guess it is a unique mind set to do preventative maintenence BEFORE THINGS FAIL at a bad moment.
