Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1990 nissan hardbody 4cyl. I went to go release some pressure from the system to reveal it was "warm." The compressor doesn't turn over beforehand, also the previous owner only drove this truck 3 months every year for the past 5 years. Where should I go from here? I already completely let the pressure out of the system since I am going to convert it to r-134a soon.

There is a compressor cycle switch (also goes by other names) located on the top of the receiver /dryer.
Disconnect it and jump the two terminals on the harness side with a paperclip.
This will keep the ac compressor running allowing you to add freon.

I dont think I would be posting about dumping a ozone depleting chemical into the air.

It's possible you have a seized compressor due to lack of use. Sounds like you should let an expert look at it AND do your retro-fit to 134! Not to be a jerk, but if you don't know what you're doing, AC can be detrimental to both you and the environment! Trust me, freon frost-bite ain't nice!

sounds like the compressor is locked up. Doesn't really matter since if you're converting to r134 then you have to change the compressor anyway, along with the reciever/drier or oraphice tube. Haven't had to mess with my a/c yet so I don't know which one we use.

If you're doing the conversion yourself make sure you blow your lines out really well with brake cleaner and compressed air. If you end up getting this stuff mixxed in the system then you're just going to ruin your brand new compressor.
