How long would you guys personally go without a blowoff/recirc valve? My motorset didn't come with one and my hotpipe and HKS SSQV are on order. Phase 2 was supposed to get their shipment in last friday but they still haven't so I haven't been driving it. I am currently breaking in my clutch so I am going wasy on the car. Any opinions? I do have a second car but it's a truck :( and not as fun.

i wouldn't. it's possible to go without one, i guess, as long as you don't boost too high, but i wouldn't risk it.

You won't have any ill effects for driving it hard or daily without a bypass valve at all. Some turbocharged cars dont' even come with a stock bypass valve at all.

You'll probably be okay for a short period of mild mannered driving. Just tame your ego when some ricey DSM is beconing you. I took the first BOv solution I could find for cheap. Don't wait too long for that stuff on backorder, though. Give it a few days to a week max, then make sure you have decent valve in the mail.

Does not matter, for instance, all trac turbo celicas and starions do not have stock bypass valves and they don't have ball bearing turbos.

Turbo Buicks have been BOVless for at the verry least 17 years now. Just a point to ponder.

Another point made, driving without a bov for a while wouldn't cause any damage.

driving at higher than stock boosts on each respective turbo can have ill effects on the turbo from the surge loading up the thrust bearings in the turbo, and of course other PITA problems like popping off IC pipes and stuff. i did a mountain run with stock 7psi on my SR and no BOV, and i popped the IC piping off twice. car dies which = no brakes and no steering (at least power assisted). not fun at all.

True... You definately have to make sure the pipes are on tight. It's bad business when they blow off at a bad time!
