I did a compression test on my ka24e, and all cylinders were about 153.

While testing, my battery was going dead I think (tail lights stay on when the battery is connected, and the car wouldnt crank to test the other 3 cylinders without having jumper cables connected). I know you're supposed to have a fully charged battery, so is it possible that all my cylinder numbers could actually be higher with a fully charged battery?

BTW, My car was puffing black smoke in puffs and I think its because of my mafs wiring (code 12 and recent rippage of wires).

yes, a fully charged batery will make a diference, also make sure you have all spark plugs removed, and the throttle plate wide open

How good of a number is 153 though? I have a .pdf FSM, but I cant find the compression numbers.

I found the numbers. 142 apparently is the minimum.

At least I dont have to rush to a ca18 now! (although I'll probably still get it).

Thanks.

The numbers aren't really that important, unless they are way off. Cheap gauges aren't that accurate and a 10% error can make a big difference.

What is important is to use the same gauge and the same process for each cylinder and check the values against each other.

138-140-146-142 is good but 158-156-106-154 would not be.

Well, I had about 153 on all 4 cylinders.

It was like in between 150 and 155.

if they are that close then its all good. dont worry about the number as there are too many variables. the engine has to be warm, the oil has to be the right kind, the batt must be fully charged, .......................................................................................................

the real important thing is that the nubers are consistant, if you have a 160, 158, 127, 162, then there is a problem
