i have a 1996 nissan pathfinder and one day i was driving and suddenly the truck started jerking and making a loud tapping noise and it wouldnt accelerate correctly, so i pulled over and smoke was coming from the engine, like where the block seperates i guess thats the head gasket area. i also noticed a while b/f that day that my radiator was always low but i could never see where the leak was coming from so i would just add water whenever i saw it low. the truck cranked once i got it home but then the next day it wouldnt and also the oil cap had yellowish looking sludge on it, but the dipstick looked normal. well i took it to the Nissan dealership and they ran a compression test on it and this is what was the result

" white smoke from exhaust# check fuel- good spark present, but plugs worn out compression test- #1- 100 #2- 50 #3- 25 #4- 120 #5- 25 #6- 30" trace coolant leak to radiator. possible heads warped or warped block"my truck is sitting up right now and i miss it, does this sound like an easy fix i would have let the dealership take it apart, but man there rates or ridiculous, i know its there job but man i am not donald trump. And i was also weary of letting them do it b/c when i asked him if the truck cranked up he said he didnt know b/c there was no record of it in his files.

Definitely a blown head gasket. You have a couple options.

1 Pull the head, have it resurfaced and stick it back on there with a new h/g and hope it's all good.

2 Pull the engine and tear it down so you can have both the block and head machined.

3 Swap in another KA.

I'd personally lean towards 1 or 3. KA's are cheap and plentiful, and swapping should only take you a weekend if you have the tools/skills to tackle it.

Good luck!
