Well, I got 145 across the board, so I guess I'm not going to turbo the ka24e in this form. I will do a full overhaul of the bottom and top end. Would the 8.6:1 compression truck pistons be a good upgrade? I am going to get the realnissan kit and was planning on just 10 psi for a few years. Anyways, I was disappointed with the compression results.

oh yea, there's a T04 i believe 60 trim turbo off of an FC RX-7 here at the junkyard. Should I pass on that? Would it be a good turbine for the KA?

145? And you're sad? Unfortunately I got 170-171 across the board, so I have absolutely no excuse to rebuild with forged internals before the turbo goes on. You however, have an excuse to throw some forged internals in there!! :)

How many miles does your motor have? I have almost 100,000.

Your compression is still about average... which is 140 - 170. Which model SOHC do you have?? Early 89 with 9.1:1 C/R or a later SOHC with 8.6:1??

it's an 89 and the standard compression in the FSM is 192. The minimum compression it lists is 142, so I wouldn't say that 145 is average.

would it really even hurt if I just went ahead and turbo'ed it? I mean, there's like 3 SOHC's here at the junkyard anyways. If I blow one up, I could drop another one in.

Where did you get your compression test done because I am thinking about getting one for me DE but it has like 22k miles so I really don't think I need to.

check the compression in one of the other ones and if one is good take it. turbo ur and drive it til it breaks then swap in the other one. seems like thats what im goin to be doin with mine. just dont run alot of boost i'd say nothin more than 6-7 psi

But, there are two versions of the 89. I'm just wondering if yours is the higher compression model.

I've always thought it odd that the SOHC FSM lists standard compression at 192. S14's are only listed at 179 as standard. But, the average figure of 140 - 170 leans more towards most SOHC's being 8.6:1 compression.

You do know that there are other factors in your compression rating such as oil quality and weight, and starter cranking power.... the numbers could be skewed towards a lower side because of such factors. Maybe a leakdown test would give you a better idea of how worn/ out of shape your motor is?

Thanks John I guess I will probably do it myself, but I think ill look for better instructions than those do to the fact that alot of the links ON that page are broken and some of the stuff confused me.
