i just did a compression test on my KA24E and here are the numbers,

1 - 1602 - 1603 - 1604 - 165

The motor is out of an 89 has about 190+K on it never been rebuilt. I know the compression brand new should be in the 175 to 180 range at best. I plan on running a garrett Super 60 trim t3 w/ .48 a/r turbine at about 7 to 10 psi, after buying a new clutch (b/c mine is original still).

Should I boost it or rebuild it i have not found what the minimum compression on a stock motor should be.

it doesnt have to be up there by any means, more important is having it close to equal on all 4, which you have

i think the FSM states that down to 150 is perfectly normal, and anything very high or low could be the test method

you should be ok

yes the most important thing about compression tests are consistency. but IIRC if under 150psi, although consistent, is reccomended for a rebuild.

if you get under 150 on several consecutive tests maybe

but if its only one test, how do you know one little thing wasnt off causing the whole thing to read 70 psi low

Change the oil, run Royal Purple and boost away. I picked up 5-8 points on my RB when I switched to Royal Purple.

Normally I am a fan of amsoil but i had to settle for mobile one with the last oil change for a few reasons. I just didn't know what was considered too low of a compression number. I tested maybe 4 times with the engine warm and everytime they came up the same or within 1 or 2 of the numbers i posted.

So I guess it settled then im buying a new clutch, wideband and few few more turbo parts and i'll boost it till it blows or i finish building a 2nd block

190K and you're goint to turbo it without rebuilding. How long do you expect that motor to last?

whats so wrong about that? people have boosted non-opened over 200k mile ka's and they seem fine, usually its so long as the tune is right then the engine should be fine.

I boosted a 140k engine, the initial compression numbers were similar to yours. After 2 weeks of boost my numbers were around 100 for 1 and 4 and 140 for 2 and 3. Expect to rebuild soon, even without the ping, boost will make the rings/ringlands go sooner.

Oh, and here is what you can expect from a proper break-in on a rebuilt engine (again my numbers after rebuild): 195, 195, 200, 195. It made me so happy. Too bad the oil pickup o-ring was busted and the engine oil starved.

So, just did the dual exhaust swap, and am making 150 now (no matter what little adjustments I make, sort of) where I was making 180, are we good, or keep playing?

17psi on a T25 doesn't seem like such a great idea... But hey, if it works...

I personally won't touch over 15psi on pump gas...

yeah, i feel the same way about that. Like i said, that was my first KA-T setup and it did the job for a while, i'm just sick of having full boost at 2200 RPM's, so thats why i'm going with somthing alittle bigger and i'm only going to run 7 to 10 PSI.
