nope i was w/ him when we tested it. i've done my own both ways and i got the same results both times so we didn't think all that was necessary.

So if thos numbers are correct you have 1 cyl that is good and now you need a new motor Have you had a leak down test done yet

1 good cylender? the only specs we could find said 190psi w/ a 14psi varience, what should it be.

where can you get a leak down tester or parts to make one. i get weird looks when i ask anyone for something like that. it would have helped me a lot. i thught i had a blown head gasket a while back and pulled the head to find 2 bent valves.

those are some really nasty compression numbers. even worse than the RX7 i had. lol. and the worst psi rating on those ou want is 85 on each rotor which is still really bad and in need of rebuild. was it owned by a young kid before you? seems pretty beat up

Not that I've measured it both ways, but I'm surprised it would ever not make a difference. The slower the compression stroke, the more air leaks out during the stroke. Having all the plugs out just gives less resistance to the starter from the other 3 cylinders, but it may not matter if the battery/starter are strong. However, I'm pretty sure having the butterfly valve open is a must. If it's closed, where will the air come from for compression? Need to minimize/eliminate manifold vacuum while cranking, let the engine breathe.
