i did a compression yesteraday. my reading was 178,178,178,178. im assuming thats good.

but my only concern is that when i was doing the comp. test i had to do it twice for the last two cylnders going back towards the firewall. first 5-6 turns i only got about 160. then i reseted the gauge, tried to tighten the tool more into the spark pulg housing and crank it again. i got about 178. then on the last cyld. when i cranked i got 180 but the gauge tapered off to around 170. why did it taper back off? is it maybe b/c of the gaquge or is it something to do with my motor?

thanks

Results look good to me. Each time the motor turns over, the gauge should flicker higher and higher. Youre looking for the point where it keeps flicking up and returning to the same rest position between strokes of the piston. Thats should be the number you read.

Hope that made some sense...

Yeah, what he said. Everytime you stop cranking the motor, the gauge will leak down unless it's a peak hold type. The highest number reached is the compression reading. If the motor is warmed up when you do it and you get 178 across the board, you're golden.
