I did a compression test today and got 200 psi across the board (+- 2 psi) The FSM says 179 psi is standard. Any clues as to why mine is almost 20psi high?

Second question. When I did the compression test, i removed the 2 wiring clips attached to the distributor ( this is a 1995 with the internal ignition coil)now when I start the car, I get a check engine light and my timing at idle is 15 degrees btdc. Did one of the connectors on the distributor trip the CEL?Do I need to clear the CEL before I take off the distributor/upper front cover to remove my timing chain guides? Thanks in advance

Could you describe exactly how you performed the compression test?

And are you saying you left those things unplugged??

I fixed the CEL, i accidentally unplugged the cam angle sensor when i did the compression test.

anyways, for the test, i did it exactly as the FSM says to, with the engine at operating temp, take the fuel pump fuse out, crank the engine till it dies, remove all 4 sparkplugs, put the tester in cyl-1 and hold the throttle wide open while you crank the engine.I checked each cylinder 3 times just to be sure, every time 200 psi.I talked to a friend tonight that said it might be carbon build up. I don't know, this is the first time i've ever heard of having compression numbers that were too high.

perhaps you have SOHC pistons in your DOHC.

My numbers were similar if i remember correctly. Does your KA seem to rip all other KA's to dust? This is an important symptom...

I wish i had SOHC pistons... but nope, just a bone stock KA under the hood. It runs strong, but not that strong.

Do you know for sure? Were you the only owner of the car?

the guy i bought it from didnt mod it at all, it was just his weekend car or something, and before that it was a business lease car or something like that, at least thats what carfax said... so i'm almost certain the engine is stock.
