a while back I posted where my friends car was puffing out white smoke from his tail pipe. This is a S13 Sr20. I assumed it was his headgasket but members of the board told me to compression test it to make sure, so we did today. Not sure what these numbers mean or if we did the test correctly but I know you guys will.

Cylinder #1- 148 psi

Cylinder #2- 148 psi

Cylinder #3- 150 psi

Cylinder #4- 150 psi

the smoke is a greyish white, I did not notice any oil in coolant or coolant in oil but I have heard that you may or may not get those symptons when dealing with a blown hadgasket.

Please help once again:help :help :help

Valve seat guides. Does it smell like oil burning on the exhaust or oil burning threw the motor. Have you checked the turbo and seals?

that is good compression so don't fret there. Could be the oil seals in the turbo... or coolant... Also does it ALWAYS do it? or just when it's hot/cold

it starts to puff as soon as the engine begins to warm up.

Im glad it is not the HG that is the best news my friend has heard all day.

I dont exaclty know what oil burning smells like but his oil level dosen't seem to go down.

are the oil and coolant seals on the turbo hard to replace?? Can anyone help me with instructions? How expensive is this??

I appreciate the hep Thank you Very much : )

If the turbo seals are bad then i dont think you can do anything about it, just replace it or or rebuild the turbo. But i could be wrong.

Its either turbo seals (best bet) or valve seals.

so if it is the turbo seals can we simply replace the seals or would we need to replace the turbo. ( if that is the case then he can use that as his excuse to upgrade)

if it the valve seals, how hard is it to get the valve seals fixed???

Thank you once again for the help : )

As far as turbo seals go you can just send your turbo off to a shop to have it rebuilt and while your at it have it bored out and put in a bigger compressor wheel

1. Turbo Rebuild- $200-2502. Bore and Bigger Compressor- $250-3003. More HP from the t2small- Priceless

As for the valve seals you will have to dismantle the head to get to them but not a super hard job. Just make sure you have every single torque spec (i.e. FSM) so the job goes smoothly

if you drive it for a while does the smoke go away? then at a stop it comes back? that is USUALLY a sign of valve guides.

I think it's the turbo leaking oil or water. No you can't replace them yourself... its kinda hard. I'll ahve a T25 for sale cheep in the next month or so. My friend has a turbo Accord (i know don't say anything) that was blowing similar smoke and it turned out it was the seals in the trubo. His oil level never seemed to go down either. It only takes a tiny bit of oil or water to make a hellah lot of smoke

Just like I said up top. Sounds like you have the symptoms of bad vavle seat guides. I have the same problem. Thank God for the extra head. When I pull it Im swapping out the h.g. for an upgrade. You wont notice a bunch of oil being consumed but it looks like it drinks it like a bud light by looking at the exhaust and its actually embarassing. You know what I mean. Everyone at the intersection stairing at the (your) cool car with the azz gas.

So far from my excessive searching I have found that turbo rebuild will cost about 400.00, where can I find it for 200.00

If I get a bigger bore and compressor would I need to alter anything on my fuel system?? or ECU?

When I disconect the turbo from the coolant and oil lines do i just cap them or do I need to drain the systems??
