Anyone ever have problem with compression rods? My car has 100,000 miles and I'm told they are begining to wear. Cost of $900 to repair. Bad to drive until I've got an extra $900 lying around? Thoughts. Thanks.

They will make noise and help in the premature wearing of the tires.Safety is one thing and i always say there are 3 things to keep up on.1.Tires2.Brakes3.Suspension and front end parts

Welcome to NICO

Are you referring to bushings in the suspension?

I was told mine are showing some signs of wear when I had new plugs installed but are still ok

Compression rods are a common issue. For most people, they get replaced between 40k and 70k. But only once, as they have been redesigned and strengthened. After replacement, the dealer or shop should also do a full alignment.

I fixed this problem for $40. DIY project.

You can buy the compression rod REVISED bushings for $40 and then you just need to press them into their location on the compression rods (off the car of course).

$900 is crazy talk. Alignment is optional but not required as you are not change the steering dynamics just putting the bushings back to where they should be. If your alignment has been adjust while the bushings are going/are bad then you should do an alignment to ensure even and smooth tire wear.

Fixing the compression rods will make the steering MUCH more solid. It will feel like a new car almost.

Hi, I was told of the similar story by my dealer (Miller Infiniti, Van Nuys, CA) whild regular oil change (04 G35 Seday RWD @ 66K) and was quoted $800 as well.

If you DIY it and got the parts for $40, could you share what are the part numbers that you bought and at where?

Also, is this pretty simple job only requiring normal tools? I used change my brake pads on Accord few years back but I don't have extensive repair experience with the car...

Any help would be appreciated.
