I love my Pioneer DEH-P7800MP. If you have an I-pod connect it to the head unit with the adapter box. I don't use CD's for anything anymore, and I used to have an Alpine mp3 player. The I-pod interface through the radio is so slick. Mine doesn't have the bluetooth, I would probably like it if I had that funtionality. I think you will find the Pioneer to be a better head unit to the others out there. I used to swear by Alpine but I think the Chinese touch has really made them cheap feeling. They have also eliminated all functionality from their head units forcing you to buy a separate processor. The Pioneer gets high marks for sound quality and having lots of features.
As far as speakers, I would go components to keep your tweeters up high, keeping your sound stage off the floor. However, I don't think you will find a decent set of components that can be driven with the power from a head unit. I picked up a set of a/d/s 246ix that I am going to push with 100 to 200 watts per channel from an Alpine MRP-F450. They require a minimum of 45 watts per channel, and recommend 150 watts per channel. I think other components sets will be similar. I don't think you want to be at the low end of the wattage requirements for you new speakers.
