well, fixing to replace factory speakers, head unit, and add a sub.....Last car i did i put in coaxials....components are suppose to be "way" better. Anybody know if there is a big difference and how it sounds? i am thinking of using the panasonic head unit cq-c9801u cause of the 31x4 rms. But i also like the pioneer with built in bluetooth.

any suggestions?

Well as far as being better I cannot say. But I do prefer components.

I like them because it gives me options as to where and how to mount my speakers.

I have a set of dual tweeter compontents from rockford. Its nice cause I left one tweeter on the speaker in the door panel and I mounted the other one on the inside of my door in the little area on the other side of my side view mirrors.

This (to me) brings the sound up off the floor and makes it louder and crisper to the ear.

This is just my own personal opinion however. I haven't been in the market for audio for about two years now since I finished my system so I don't know whats quality out there anymore.

Good luck in your audio adventure!!

I love my Pioneer DEH-P7800MP. If you have an I-pod connect it to the head unit with the adapter box. I don't use CD's for anything anymore, and I used to have an Alpine mp3 player. The I-pod interface through the radio is so slick. Mine doesn't have the bluetooth, I would probably like it if I had that funtionality. I think you will find the Pioneer to be a better head unit to the others out there. I used to swear by Alpine but I think the Chinese touch has really made them cheap feeling. They have also eliminated all functionality from their head units forcing you to buy a separate processor. The Pioneer gets high marks for sound quality and having lots of features.

As far as speakers, I would go components to keep your tweeters up high, keeping your sound stage off the floor. However, I don't think you will find a decent set of components that can be driven with the power from a head unit. I picked up a set of a/d/s 246ix that I am going to push with 100 to 200 watts per channel from an Alpine MRP-F450. They require a minimum of 45 watts per channel, and recommend 150 watts per channel. I think other components sets will be similar. I don't think you want to be at the low end of the wattage requirements for you new speakers.

I have always preferred components. If you get co-ax, make sure they have tweeters that can be angled for better sound quality.

I would suggest an external amp as well.
