Recently purchased a 90’ TT. Car has been running fine to my knowledge, but the other day I noticed an oil leak. Due to the oil leak, I want to pull the motor, complete the 120k maintenance, and install a new wiring harness. Is there anything else I should do already taking on such a big project? I want the car to be damn near perfect if not. Any suggestions? Bushings, bolts, etc, anything to service for reliability? Open to any advice and all help would be appreciated!

Check compression first. If compression is good, then pulling the engine, a complete re-seal, new timing belt, water pump, all new belts / hoses, new motor mounts, and a good cleaning will do wonders.

Why a new harness? That's a daunting task.

You can go nuts replacing all suspension bushings, but that can quickly turn into a glass-out, interior out, rotisserie restoration. I'd keep systems separate - do the suspension later.

Didn’t even think about replacing seals, hoses or motor mounts.
As for the harness, looking around my engine bay, there is shredded wires, loose wires, random connectors hanging out with no mates, and overall just a nightmare to look at.
It wasn’t until I had bought the car I realized when the seller said, “straight piped” they meant no exhaust whatsoever. I’m already going to be under the car cleaning all the exhaust fumes off the undercarriage, and installing an exhaust, I might as well take care of everything down there while I do it.

Sounds like you might have a huge project on your hands.

Z32TT is already a pisser to work on... add to it some janky mods, neglect, and abuse, and you might be falling a**-first into a money pit.

Thankfully no janky mods, mostly stock. Just a new radiator, coil overs, and the common cold air intake swap. Neglect, yeahhhh, car was a barn find by the previous owner. And abuse, yeah, previous owner drove it harder than any car I’ve seen driven, but thankfully they didn’t own it too long, and were just trying to flip it.
I’m to the point of taking the car apart piece by piece in an attempt to make a 1990 300 look like it just came from the dealership.

Long read, but a good one at that. I guess me and Mr. Peter have them same idea in mind.

I read that article over a year ago, before I went to bed. I knew that the Z32, twin turbo especially, is a high maintenance car (money pit). That's why I'm not upset that it's costing me money here and there to get mine up. I have a 95 tt that is completely stock and only one owner. Luckily, he was an older man. He bought it when he was in his 60's, so I'm confident the car is not hammered. But he neglected it by never putting in the garage. Hopefully the worse mine has is cosmetic neglect, but I see leaking P/S lines right now....That's the nature of this beast.
