I couldn't find a similar thread after searching and was wondering how many A/C owners also competed in, or planned to compete in, organized motorsport with their cars. Mods, please kill this and redirect me if this has been covered before! Otherwise, guys, let's hear it if you are involved in, or plan to be, in any form of competition or performance driving. Give us the details. I have left out circuit racing as I don't think anyone here is doing that. I have also tried to use verbiage that works in both Canada and the US.

My A/C is intended to run in both slalom and solo events this year. Hopefully lapping sessions too.

I've hit the drag strip and run Auto-X with my current setup...

...not too fast since it's a 2.5, but DAAAAAMN does this car handle with a few $$$ dropped in suspension gear. This summer I did some touge in Vancouver with my WRX buddies...and kept up with them no problem!

Fixed you poll

I haven't really raced it, other than street races and some canyon runs. Nothing organized. I wish it was easily accessed in Socal without to much money or hassle

Thanks, Blake!

What does it cost there to join a sanctioned club and compete in slalom or solo events?

I live near Toronto, and I probably have 6 to 10 car clubs to choose from, and 4 to 6 of those have active programs, or ties with other clubs, that support both on and off track competition programs. Do you guys not have such stuff available to you in the major US areas?

I'm really not sure of the exact cost, but with my deploy able military status, I'm not around a lot to meet these event. I'm sure it would be expensive, considering socals economy.

texas motorplex NHRA speedway in Ennis, TX 1/4 mile is about 35 minutes from where i stay. There's also an 1/8th mile in G.P. that's about 15 minutes from me.

Think you're talking about Infineon Raceway, located in Sonoma Valley (right outside of San Fran). They have Wednesday night drags, similar to sac raceway. As for there track its mainly just for professional events, also there driving school, no open track day (at least i have never heard of one).

We should plan a NorCal A/c meet/ track day either at Infineon or Sacramento Raceway.

I ran the 1/8th a bunch when the car was new and mostly stock so i could learn the clutch and best possible launch. Have been out the the 1/4 mile three times since adding the turbo, but not since increasing the boost. Road course once in a shotty parking lot that i didn't run too hard because of the road condition and the stock tires.

high 12's was a perfect run with 6lbs. of boost and a stock suspension and tire setup. I have the slicks mounted in the garage ready for spring should i still have the car.

Interesting.... so far....

50% say the A/C is basic transportation, 25% say they compete in organized motorsport.... and 25% say they street race!

True that the sample is small, and that forum members are not average motorists, but it's still an interesting stat. One in four are apparently prepared to pay the rather high price that street racers face today. That number may even be higher since some who compete in organized events also engage in street racing. Perhaps it coincides with the demographic of A/C owners? Perhaps many don't realize that organized events are accessible and affordable to most? Not sure, and I didn't start this to judge anyone.

I just find it interesting that 25% cite street racing outright. If all drivers did that, I think I'd park my car and work from home!

It would be fun to make a dedicated all-out track car out of the A/C

I've autocrossed the A/C. Fun sport that can be done on the weekends with a daily driver such as our cars.

are you talking mud tires and off road style or mountain roads. the manual mode kinda sux on the cvt and it's not really that responsive.

I drive my CVT in manual mode all the time. If you are talking about mountain roads, I would use manual mode. Not only can you find a gear (however artificial it may be) that keeps you in an appropriate rev range (climbing or cornering), but you get the benefit of engine braking on downhill sections or anywhere that you are slowing down (in full CVT mode you don't get that, it behaves like any other auto trans).
