I have a 2002 3.5 SE Altima. If I have to transplant another 3.5 into this car, which vq35's (car models, years) will work without too much hassle?

there is a slight difference in the intake manifold. If you look at your VQ, you'll notice that the intake runners are painted silver while the new ones (2007 +) are black. That's because Nissan redesigned the intake to be more efficient and deliver more airflow than the previous year's model. Bolt pattern is different too between the years. As far as I know, that's the only thing Nissan made different between the VQs. I'm assuming the electrical would be the same.... Not sure on that but I don't see why it wouldn't be.

No.

Unless mine is confused, that is.

That's what I had assumed. I guess I didn't get Beak's answer.

I figured the vq35 from the 2002-2004 Altima would bolt right up. Can anyone confirm?

Looks like we are looking for the same information - did you get anywhere with this project?

Sounds like they're semi-interchangeable but I'd be surprised if it was as easy as that. I'm sure there are small differences. The block and heads should be the same although anything that plugs into or bolts into them may be slightly different. And I'd be willing to bet that to transplant a 2005 motor into a 2002 car (just as an example) might require using your original intake and accessories (harness?) to make it work. I'm sure someone has done this but I haven't received any credible advice.

Good luck!

If you are doing the whole motor you'd better get a motor from a 02-06 Altima or 03-08 Maxima.

07+ Altima's are mounted differently and have a different IM design
